Post your commuter!

Here is my commuter that i got off my brother in law on the weekend. Took it to uni and back today and it was really good. Single speed makes you work on the climbs, but it pedals a lot easier than my dualie and still has flat bars and a pretty comfortable riding position.

My communter

My communter, an avanti inc2.

A bit dirty after getting caught in the rain on the way home. trail turned to mud very quickly.

Already posted in the other commuter thread. Apologies didn't realise this one existed.

Salsa Commuter.jpg

Salsa El Mariachi 29er.
CroMoly forks swapped out for 80mm Rockshox Reba Race.
Schwalbe Big Apple Slicks. I swear by these.
Topeak TriPouch on the TT for phone.
Basket keeps my heavy bags off my back, and also takes a lot of faff away for short trips to the shops.
Once you've had a basket on your commuter you'll never take it off.
FLATS cause who wants to walk around in clumsy cleats.

Love the basket, could just picture my dog in one of those (tried a crate on the front of a bmx once...too much dead weight on the handlebar and pretty hairy handling at times).

hey guys,

I really like the look of the Cannondale Badboy flatbars in matte black but I'm also keen on the idea of a Gates carbon drive..... is a carbon belt drive worth it over a chain? I would likely run an Alfine 11 either way. Pondering the worth of getting a second hand Badboy medium frame and getting it modified to accept a belt.

Bear in mind that if you run a belt on Alfine 11 it runs a heap more tension than a chain, and kills your bearings, subsequently invalidating your Shimano warranty. So if I were you, I could just put up with the deafening cacophony of a chain drive.

I have a belt drive with alfine 11. I wouldn't say the tension on the belt is higher than a chain? Never heard of the hub warranty being invalidated.

I'd say rather buy a frame that can accept a belt rather than modifying. My Avanti Inc is matt black and is designed for belt drive (i.e. you can open the rear triangle)

As for whether it's worth it - well for commuting it's good, no maintenance and long life.

New commuter. Got the new second hand frame after eating through the chain stay with the chain rings on the previous one. The outside of the bottom bracket had been munted over the years by various mechanics. The last bloke who put on told me i'd never get off again. Of course, I tried eventually and removed the remainder of the shell on the drive side of the BB in the process. This allowed the whole spindle and cranks to migrate left. This didn't become apparent to me for quite a while. All components where OK, the Merida Mag frame was fucked.

Note that the brake lines are the correct length now.

introducing Twitch, so aptly named due to her ridiculously fast steering, ok so short stem, flat bars on a race geometry bike is a little silly but a hell of a lot of fun.

She was made as a SS commuter and for days when i didn't want to take the BMC or MTB out.
I was also hoping that she was going to be a little stealthy, unfortunately she seems to turn heads. (she nearly caused and accident on sunday's pub run)

Twitch was a mix of parts that i had lying around:
Hong-fu FM15 isp frame
Chinese carbon 50mm rims
an old 25mm Easton bar and stem
and a omnium crank.

She is very quick to get up hill and up to speed, but doesn't have the weight to roll.

Source to back that up? Last time I was at a Shimano do they were showing off Alfine on a belt drive setup.

You missing a brake dude?

Dam knew I forgot something... :p

the bike is made from spares and all I had was a front brake
Haha, fair enough. You got a rear one yet? Pretty sure I've got the old calipers off my SS kicking around here somewhere; you can have one if you need it (and I can find where I put it).
