In a group ride during the week that contained some seriously awesome water crossings I witnessed one guy fall into almost all of the crossings because he kept making an arse of his approach and how he rolled through it. Everyone else managed it just fine, he talked himself up............

Guess what?

He was wearing two of these stupid effing things on his wrists. They must have attracted his stupid attitude along with the rest of him into the water everytime.......

i knew they were no good when I saw the blokes at work selling them to everyone and each other at lunchtime. We had welders selling them, storeman selling them, boilermakers selling them, supervisors selling them etc etc. And the stupid thing is they are taking orders for pink ones, blue ones and orange ones blah blah blah and THEN you see that stupid grin on there face as they dream they can make a fortune selling them and not have to work ever again:rolleyes:

The Placebo effect and Trickery.

Here's a link to the tricks behind the con that is the power Balance Band or whatever similar products are called.

PBB just received a Shonky award from Choice magazine and you can buy your own bands with customized logo for under $2 from china.

skepticbros.com will sell you a Placebo band for $2
http://skepticbros.com/store/

The Power Balance band is an out and out con and any one selling them or products making similar claims are knowingly comiting fraud because you need to know the con to conduct the balance and flexibility test convincingly.

Q. Is Placebo Band water proof?
A. Yes it is rubber and belief. Both are completely waterproof.

Gold! Gold! Gold!

http://www.theage.com.au/executive-style/fitness/power-balance-bracelets-exposed-as-a-sham-20101223-195u7.html

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has ordered Power Balance Australia to refund all customers who feel they were misled by the supposed benefits of Power Balance bracelets.

Any one crash and injure themselves while wearing one ?

But ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said in a statement: “Power Balance has admitted that there is no credible scientific basis for the claims and therefore no reasonable grounds for making representations about the benefits of the product.

“Its conduct may have contravened the misleading and deceptive conduction section of the Trade Practices Act 1974," Mr Samuel said.

BINGO !

Mr Samuel also warned that retailers that continue to sell the products with misleading advertising or packaging would be open to action from the ACCC.

wonder if any events will accept sponsorship money from them from now on ?

I have obtained information that their sponsorship of a Victorian mtb event may have "fallen through" at around the time that negative publicity emerged and the ACCC orders were made. It will be interesting to find out what happens when the same event operators put on this event or other events later on.

with thanks to Tim Minchin for saying it so eliquantly:

"You show me that it works and how it works
And when I’ve recovered from the shock
I will take a compass and carve 'Fancy That' on the side of my cock"

I do love the article in The Age about PB bands today. It carefully explains that they are about to undergo scientific testing - by a buch of chiropractors. A group of people who practice a technique i think is well described as "supported by not a jot of evidence" and therefore nothing but "bogus treatments".

And after checking out the Pineflux, i'm sure that it would have a greater possitive effect on my riding - if only so the time until i can stop using it is shorter!

Ok i totally agree with the PBB crapstory...but chiropractors not supported by any evidence...are you for real? it's not voodoo!
