4S

Well that’s a reassuring response, thanks guys. Mrs Ultra’s a dingus and punctured her front left pulling onto the shoulder on heathcote road saturday so I’ve lost my nato run mobile.

ordered 4 of these this afternoon because the local conti places I tried didn’t have direct replacements of what was on there (can’t remember. Wine is happenin).

I look forward to their inaugural run down to macquarie bypass via stanwell tops tomorrow afternoon.

Noice :) The Alfa will be getting a set before next winter. It’s hard on tyres, with rotation all of the OE Bridgestones will be toast by 35K kms...

Awesome. Love new tyre day. Such good, easy performance gains to be had.

New cartyre day is almost as exciting as new mtb tyre day for me. Almost.

Nothing will ever beat new mx tyres on a fresh groomed mx track though. That is a special kind of special. The specialist even.
I miss my 125sx :(

OK, since you confirmed 4S. I have them on my car. Done 10,000km. wearing much better than the previoius Contis, especially the new one! I have driven another on Pilot Sport Cup 2 and I would put the 4S at the same level of dry grip and much much better when a dog pisses on the road. I had Conti 5P on from new and had those and 6P on another car. The 5P is shite and the 6P not much better regardless of what is said on the interwebs. The PS4 though is a softer sidewall compound and is meant for cars that have a sporting lean but really should be comfy too so not in the same league as the PS4S. The new Cup 2 tyre as fitted to the GT2RS are better again in the dry but man are they slippery on a damp road. Not that I would know of course.

Nothing beats new knobbies in the dirt and then when you swap them back to front. My trials tyres though didn't round off so much and were easier to get decent life out of.

Have fun.

On the subject of tyres, Continental bought out K-Mart Tyre and Auto, then rebranded as mycar.

My question is why? I thought Continental would've had enough of a name to use as a brand.

Or am I giving the Young and the Shoeless too much credit?

I went from the Conti 5s to Bridgestone Potenza-S007A. They've been a definite improvement but a lot of this could be down to them just being new. I thought looking at the tread pattern that they would be a nightmare in the wet, but drove through torrential rain recently on the way back from Melbourne and did not experience any aquaplaning.

Also, does anyone else miss a time when you could rotate tyres? I do wonder about the performance benefits of the staggered fitment beyond just looks.

Nah, I think rotating tyres back in the dark ages was more to do with tyre technology not being so great that they would not wear evenly. These days I only do front to back it because FWD stuff goes through front tyres so much faster than the back and I like to replace as a set of 4 (usually because I’ll change tyre brand or model) and to keep the car more balanced.

Otherwise don’t bother at all, just put the new pair on the back.

Incase anyone was still wondering after all those resounding “yes” posts, the pilot’s really are that good.
That was a very, very silly drive.
The Mrs short commute from tyre place to home however isn’t enough to scrub in the tyres, I probably might maybe ease into the twisties slowly next time aha.

Noice. I got my favourite tyre shop in Melbourne (Stefan at Ringwood tyre plus, top bloke, French car nerd, been buying tyres from him for 20 years) to put these on Kirsty’s Dads cheap Mazda 3 we bought him. Massively overcapitalising on an old car many would say, but he loves them. Raves about following his motorcycle club mates and finding corners the hard way...

No car is too cheap for good tyres.

Ol' mate spotted me snapping the pick and we had a good chat for 10 or so minutes and he completely agrees with that review. He was telling me about when he went over to pick it up some of the extravagances the other owners get up to like one fella who couldn't decide what dash he wanted so he bought 3 so he could have one of each he liked or the guy that rocked up to the factory with £5mill of diamonds he got crushed and added into the paint...mental.
