Saw one in the wild today...685k worth of hideousness, it's no prettier in the flesh.

Ol' mate spotted me snapping the pick and we had a good chat for 10 or so minutes and he completely agrees with that review. He was telling me about when he went over to pick it up some of the extravagances the other owners get up to like one fella who couldn't decide what dash he wanted so he bought 3 so he could have one of each he liked or the guy that rocked up to the factory with £5mill of diamonds he got crushed and added into the paint...mental.
Did he say why he bought it...?

Also worth noting this is the same demographic that’s happy to spend 5m on sparkly paint (wtf...?) but also like to pay their accountants lots to avoid tax and vote for governments that attack the welfare dependant. I’d be inclined to set one of these fucking things on fire on principle.

Not really, and I didn't want to get into that, but he did say that you're unlikely to see too many on our shores, (*and I imagine just because he could).

*So probably just dick swinging, although on the surface he was pretty decent guy.

Like the short lived invites to drinks with Liberal party advisers, I find it fascinating to attempt insights into alien worlds like Cullihan owners. I’d be curious as to what he’d have said :)

Like those utterly vile young liberals types, I’m sure I’d not understand the answer...

Dear God why! I utterly fail to see what this adds to something like a Range Rover.

I've also seen 2 Lamborghini Urus in the wild. Again, WHY!?

I don’t really mind. It’s a two year old car with 27000 on it, I’m fine to leave the brake fluid in there for quite a while longer and it’s one less thing for them to muck with. And I didn’t pay for the service anyway.

But it’s only reinforcing my opinion of the trade in general...

Alfa dealer said they’d changed the brake fluid. I call bullshit...

Pull the dust cap off and check if it's wet in there, they probably just sucked the fluid out of the master cylinder and wiped it clean, typical dealership crap because the mechanics have a set time for the job that's impossible to achieve without shortcuts. This is what fucks most private shops that compete against them as they're expected to be cheaper in the first place.

yep did that - dry as a nuns nasty. It’s impossible to put a spanner on there and not leave a mark on the grey plated bolts favoured by euro car makers. They just assumed no one would check.

Spark plugs at least were changed ($30 each lol). I pulled one to check even though the mangled coil pack bolt heads showed use of power tools... I’ll loosen them all off when I get home and re torque them.

This would have been an $800 service had Alfa not been covering it. Obviously I’d not have been paying for this anyway, but still not great.

Fckn tradies?

Yeah, throw away cars and low wages isn't going to attract the smartest tool in the shed either.

You should loosen a bleed nipple and take it back to fuck them up.

Yep, it’s the state of the trade these days for sure. I did it because a) it was free, b) it gets the hard 2-3 shift recorded again should I need a warranty claim later, and b) I want d the software update. I’m genuinely glad they didn’t change the brake fluid as it’s one less thing for them to screw up...

I did email them to tell them they charged for some thing that wasn’t done. On principle that’s not ok.

Some small progress on the Escort. Engine mounts are welded to the front rails with stiffening plates. Engine in and out three times to check and it all lines up beautifully. Going to fit the headers with cap head screws rather than the factory studs so they can be fitted with the engine in the mounts.

Tried to pull the engine and gearbox together and it worked! So the motor and box will be put together properly with clutch before it goes back.

My plan to fit the charcoal canister next to the fuel tank wont work due to the location of the exhaust so I am back to mounting the catch can and charcoal canister in the engine bay. So I am searching for a suitable canister. Brackets for those and the relocated oil filter will be the last things before the painting of the engine bay.

#2 is finishing off the blasting and painting of the various brackets and mounts and painting the engine bay prior to the engine going back in.

Wiring is complete and needs to be pulled before fitting the diff and links.

Getting there slowly.

And for a bit of fun have a look at this...

Only CAI I have seen that you can fit a first flush device to. And I wasted way too much time making the strut brace when all you need is a bit of box section.
