Project Car / Motorbike thread. Let's see 'em.

I was curious about that. It's never been done to Mrs George's Colorado. Should I do a little bit at a time, or has that horse bolted?
It's more or less preventative maintenance like it's not going to fix many problems on a worn out motor. I was a bit sceptical years ago as one bloke I used to work for over pushed those carbon clean flushes all the time. We did a few cylinder heads on cars that had the treatment from new and surprisingly inside the manifolds and cylinder heads were fairly clean.

Subaru has an intake foam treatment as part of the servicing, if you didn't rev the bejesus out of the car after using it, it would make the plugs miss and sometimes that's a bit hard when you have the owner waiting in the next room. So then you had to pull the plugs out and clean them or replace them, a lot of times we used to wait until a big service was due and give the motor a carbon clean before the spark plugs were changed.

The old diesels that were fairly neglected used to spit out carbon everywhere, you would end up with black soot all over the ground at the end of the tailpipe, and sometimes you would get a little miss where a piece of carbon came loose and lodged itself under the valve.

I used the Wynns fuel tank additive (diesel cleaner) once a year on my brother's 5l Hilux up until 400K, he took over the servicing until it reached over 600k, and kept on using the diesel cleaner. The injectors and cylinder head have never been removed from the motor in all that time. The motor is a bit rattly from old age but still runs well. I used to know the Brisbane wynns rep really well and one thing he said is not to overuse it.

Notes taken! Thank you!

It's only done 250k, but now that I have the work ute, I don't see the Service Due on the dash, so it's getting a little neglected.

I'll be buying the Wynn's stuff on the way home tomorrow.

This could be in the 'What did you for your bike today' thread since I rode past it.

Anyhow, took Justin on a late afternoon blat. Saw a black snake on the path which has nothing to do with anything, then ended up next to the Penrite Oil distribution centre.

They had a car event called Street Mentality. Their first go at it aimed for folks that like cars with some focus on mental health.

I went to rubber neck but asked if they can be sure that no one would try to run me over since bike rider relations can be a bit sketchy :) No vintage MTB class unfortunately since I would have been in with a solid shot at the title.

Everything from a vintage Beetle, a red double decker bus, vintage Holdens and Fords, JDM's and a Lambo or two. I noted an R32, R33 and R34 but no R35 so @Oddjob would be a shoe in for big accolades. Also no Mazda’s but it's Focus cousins were there. My stock Mazda won't cut it, so I should at least paint my wheels gold.

There is another car fest on now not far away called Cars Under the Stars. It is an all out hoon-a-thon tonight.

I predict hearing crackle tunes later then someone will lay some rubber followed by Police sirens then it will all go quiet.
This is the way.

I took my son to a huge cars and coffee a few weeks back, crazy amount of big dollar cars. If you took a 911 there you would have felt you had a commie exc there was so many.
These two sitting together were my personal favourites.

Yeah that's what I always found with those big meets / displays, great for 10 minutes or so then just becomes numbing, like nothing's that special except for the really one off, unique stuff (like the BTTF set piece above). Feels weird to be walking past the seventh GT3 RS and it barely raising a reaction..

I do appreciate the effort, time and money that goes into these shows. Have to agree that all gets a bit same-same though once you have been there for a while.

@Chriso_29er. The Back to the Future cars next to each other would have been a crowd winner.

Just an update to the plight of the Jimny idle. It has been much better but still not 100% - which might be a big ask but a man needs a target.

I ordered a new throttle body gasket since the factory one was looking a bit ordinary. Swapped it over and gave the IAC another blast of cleaner. It must spin freely with as least resistance as possible.

I suspect the gasket might have introduced an air leak messing up the idle, or the gasket was letting in some bonus EGR air gumming it up a bit.

I am slowly getting there as a Jimny intake specialist if I like it or not.

See how it goes, the sequel :)

I found that the spinny thing had tightened up while I waited for the o ring. So I gave it another blast. The o ring was gooped in place so it had been apart before and that was likely when the o ring was damaged. Anyway under $100 for new belts, new hoses, new o ring and 76 cans of carby clean later it idles like it should. Actually wasn't a bad drive when I handed it back.
