PRESS RELEASE:
The 1st Round of the Queensland MTNX Series took place on the weekend at the National Series Round track, Illinbah. Atmosphere was high after riders saw the slight changes to the track after the recent rain fall, which damaged the last corner. The new finish now consisted off a tight turn into a drop off and small rock garden before sprinting their way to the finish.
In the Elite Men we had a great mixture of BMX and MTB riders. Rhys Willemse (U/19 Australian MTNX Champion) took the plunge to step up to the Elite Men’s class, while Steve Janssen (UMF) was trying to secure his second win on this track in a row.
Steve was first out of the gate but lost his balance and had an off over the first big double. This left the win open for the remaining three riders. Richard Levinson (Ashgrove Cycles) took the lead and was in front for the entire race until the last corner were Rhys Willemse (Tomac, For The Riders, Cropthorn) made the move of the day to cut in under Richard to secure the win. Richard came in 2nd and Cameron Allonby (For The Riders) in 3rd.
In the Under 19 Men we saw Jock Farrington win every race throughout the day including the final to take out 1st Place, followed closely behind by Mitchell Thorpe in 2nd and Kerry King in 3rd.
Some of the greatest racing of the day came from the Under 15 Boys where we saw Kerrod Connors & Remy Morton fighting for the win. A bad start in the final from Remy paved the way for a win for Kerrod, while Remy came in 2nd and Eric Dimovski in 3rd.
The next round takes place on the 9th March @ Underwood Park. This is the last MTNX race before the Oceania Championships in New Zealand. So make sure your there to get some last minute racing practice in.
