It looks like Paluma Push entries are open although the site initially said it would Townsville Rockwheeler members only for the first two weeks. This event sold all 550 spots in 4 days last year. If you're interested in coming up, you'll need to be quick
I rode the long course last year with minimal fitness and really enjoyed it. That said, the sections through cow pasture toward the end take it out of you, especially on a hardtail when you're already pretty tired. The loop around the dam is great and they've introduced a new middle distance (50kms) this year that takes in the dam without having to complete the full 73kms.
There is a great atmosphere in Hidden Valley at the end and camping is available there. Last year I stayed in a hotel in Ingham but if I do ride this year, I think I'll camp.
