My piece of RC goodness:
I'm a yachtie in full-size life, so what else would my RC toy be? It's bigger than it looks; hull length is a metre, and from the bottom of the keel to the tip of the mast is more than 2m. The overall design is based on the early-2000s International Americas Cup Class yachts.
I've had this for close to 20 years. It was made by a mob called Beili, who I'd never heard of before or since; the fibreglass hull is well made, but did need some sealing & fairing around the keel during assembly. However the rig is terrible! The mast is a noodle that needs a lot more support; it bends so badly in the wrong directions that you need to just about go the opposite to how you'd tune a life-size mast! The non-existence of a properly-shaped sail cut doesn't help either, which also contributes to the contradictory setup.
Propulsion is entirely by wind, the RC bits only control steering and sail trim. Water and electrics don't play well together, even though the deck hatch is sealed when sailing, so several times over the years I've had to redo the leckies.
Probably the most concerning time was when the power switch on the controller failed while I was sailing on a decent-sized lake; it was switching off & on, so I only had intermittent control to get it back to shore. Another time, on a more constrained waterway, the boat got overpowered by the breeze and I lost steerage and the boat parked itself in the reeds on the opposite bank with no way of getting out remotely. Fortunately there's a footbridge across the river very close to where I was sailing (and stuck), so retrieval wasn't too difficult, but the walk back on the footbridge next to the freeway with a toy boat under my arm was a bit embarrassing.
