Road Tubeless worth it?

I just fitted my Hutchinson Fusion 3 tubeless tyres, with Stans sealant. Rolled down the road a few times, feels good.

Surprisingly not that hard to fit.

Fitted to rim with about 20cm left open on one side. Tipped in the 55ml or so of sealant and rolled that around to bottom of tyre. Used tyre irons to get the bead on, and got my big barrel pump and after only about five minutes of furious pumping it seated itself. A bit of sealant leaked but no real issue. Pumped up to 140psi to make sure seated properly and will stay in place. All good. No soap needed.

now for the real test, see how long and well they last running fine. Gunna run at 120 psi as I did with tubes to compare as close as possible.

who makes CX tubeless tyres - I have tubeless wheels
Specialised are now doing 2bliss CX tyres. They came on my 2014 crux expert but unfortunately the wheels aren't tubeless ready!

What tubeless wheels do you have? You can use non tubeless tyres for cx as the pressures are only 30-40 psi. I've used michelin mud 2's on durace tubeless wheels. It worked but the rim is really to narrow for a 30-35 width tyre. I think something around 18-20mm internal width is better.

I have Ultegra tubeless road wheels

I have Ultegra tubeless road wheels
Ultegra rims are the same as Durace. Mine are 9700 and 15mm ID and result in a very round profile on a 30c cx tyre. I couldn't get the mud 2's to seat with a track pump and needed a compressor. CXmagazine web site has some good info on what non tubeless cx tyres they have used successfully tubeless. I was also nervous about using a low spoke count wheel, durace wheels aren't ride able once a spoke goes.

What are any of you guys using as an air compressor?

I have checked all auto and 4WD suppliers and not one system has an adapter for presta valves. So how is anyone getting their tyres inflated if the bead does not sit easy?

I would like to buy a decent 12V portable compressor so I can also use it with my 4WD car tyres, but they only come with sporting and air bed adapters.

How can I hook up a presta valve to the compressor?

The handset just clips onto the end of the hose running from the compressor.
Cool, thanks.

Incidentally I also home brew and have a kegging system, including C02 cylinder. I have emailed them to see if their Nitrogen system can work with a C02 cylinder.

Reckon you've solved my problem.

You can get presta > schrader adapters at any bike shop for a couple of bucks, just a little threaded brass thing. I've found that they seem to restrict airflow a little though which can make seating tubeless MTB tyres a bit of a shit at times.

You can also get replacement pump heads/hoses from the likes of Topeak so you can retrofit that to your compressor gun and run a clever-head or 2-way head. That's the setup I'm using at the moment, but I'm planning on giving a prestaflator a go, they seem like a better workshop quality option.

Crank: do you have the schrader fitting for the prestaflator too? Is it easy enough to switch between them?

I just swap the hand pieces over. I don't have the adaptor for the Prestaflator, but fitting a different hand piece isn't time consuming or difficult.

Ha! I didn't even consider ringing the bike shop, my local Castle Hill bike shop has them for three bucks.

I'll definitely consider the prestaflator though - looks like a good product.

I have one

I would sell it

no compressor - have blown up two in three years - completely useless.

You mean blown up two compressors? Sounds quite possible. Having spoken to ARB who sell decent 4WD gear, if you buy a compressor at SuperCheap Auto or Autobarn expect it to blow up quickly as they are the cheapest nastiest crap they can possibly sell.

I reckon my preferred option is if I can connect the Nitrogen system from Prestflator people to my C02 cylinder, thats the choice I'll go with. But they have not replied to my email yet.
