Rocky Trail will be the first cycling event organiser to host a MTB event at the new “Enduro Trail” at Mount Annan Botanic Garden in Sydney’s South-West.

Mount Annan is the native plant garden of the Botanic Gardens Trust in Sydney and with 416 hectares it is the largest botanic garden in Australia. On the weekend of 26+27 March 2011 mountain bikers from near and far will be summoned to the new cycling destination that’s set in the historic region of McArthur.

Rocky Trail to launch two racing and riding series for 2011
Round 1 of Rocky Trail’s SHIMANO MTB Grand Prix will be the first race to be held on the newly built tracks on Saturday, 26 March 2011, and the 4 and 8 hour race day will be followed by another first on Sunday, 27 March, with the launch of the BANZAI LifeCycle MTB Fitness Series.

The Enduro Trail, which will be used for both events, provides a challenging and enjoyable ride, within the rich and diverse botanical display of Mount Annan Botanic Garden.

“With our new ‘Enduro Trail’ we wanted to open our beautiful Botanic Garden to mountain bikers and invite them to enjoy the lush surrounds with friends and family”, says Caz McCallum, Assistant Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens & Domain Trust said.

There are also plans to turn further develop the existing almost 7km tracks into a destination for cyclists and mountain bikers with world class mountain bike trail for riders in south-western Sydney.

“One of our main goals has always been to help identify and create new MTB tracks in and around Sydney and to help promote them and attract riders by organising events. With SHIMANO and BANZAI we found two very supportive sponsors, who will help spread the word about the Enduro Trail really fast!”, says Martin Wisata from Rocky Trail.

The event organiser had been liaising with the team at Mount Annan Botanic Gardens for over a year to help substantiate their bold plans to establish, as he adds “the only MTB trail in a botanic garden world-wide as far as we know.”

The track is available to the public during opening hours of the Botanic Garden and visitor numbers have been increasing steadily, confirms Caz MacCallum.

“The close proximity to the City is definitely a big incentive for the cyclists and we see a lot more families who visit the gardens together and explore it by bike. We are very excited for Rocky Trail to organise not one, but two events – for keen racers and social or beginner mountain biker riders alike.”

With an on-site restaurant, visitor centre and garden shop, kids playgrounds, walking trails and BBQ stations, Mount Annan Botanic Garden is establishing itself not only as a mountain bike destination but as a weekend getaway. Not even an hour away from the City, riders will be particularly captivated by the beautiful surrounds while exploring and racing on parts of the track, which is shaped like the shores of Australia!
