Saddle recommendations

Ok, probably been asked before, but I'm after recommendations for a new saddle.

I've tried a few over the years, and just haven't been able to find one that works for me. Plenty of them seem good for a few months, but all end up uncomfortable and even painful

So far I've tried:
Sdg bel air
Sdg I fly
Sdg ti fly (like but too firm)
Wtb (silverado and something else I think)
Giant roadie
And various eBay saddles in different shapes.

Most seem to be around the 135mm width, and I'm happy to stick with this as I've had trouble getting over the back on descents with wider saddles.

If it makes any difference, I'm 6ft tall and weigh ~100kg with a 36" waist (to get an idea of my stature),
I'm by no means a small fella.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be very helpful. Obviously the cheaper the better at this stage as I don't wanna spend big on another saddle I don't like.

Been on a Fizik Gobi for a while and been pretty happy. Try going into a Specialized BG dealer and get them to fit you with a saddle, not done it myself but I've heard good things.

I am a massive Selle Italia SLR Flow saddle fanboy (One on roadie, and one on each mtb). I wear knicks all the time though.

I'm 183cm, 90kg, 35" waist with big legs.

I'm exactly the same height/weight as the OP and +1 a 143mm Specialized BG with a tapered tail to allow you to get over the back. Would recommend visiting a Spec dealer to get measured up, but 135mm sounds a bit narrow for a gentleman of your stature.

I am also a big fan of Selle Italia, although picking the right one is a bit more hit and miss.

I recently moved from a TiFly to an Aliso, world of difference, it's still supportive but at the same time much comfier. I'm ~90Kg and 6ft

Ive recently tried the WTB Volt on my AM bike. Which is their new slim-line saddle for xc etc
Before this i had Selle Flow's etc as ive always wanted good designed slim saddles with little weight.
But ive found this WTB saddle to be a great compromise between padding, shape and minimal shape. Well worth a look. Ill most probably stick with this seat for most bikes in the future.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, certainly food for thought.
I've got a Specialized BG dealer nearby so I'm gonna have my ass sized up and see how that works out.

I do like the look of the wtb volt, so if the specialized thing doesn't work out then I might try one of those..

Where abouts are you getting the discomfort?

If it is your sit bones, then maybe the saddles you have used are too narrow. An idea may be to get your sit bones measured.

FWIW, i gave a Prologo scratch (143mm) a go for a few months on my roadie and just couldn't get comfortable. I've since moved to a Specialized Romin (143mm) and find it much better. oh, i'm 185cm & 87kg, close to your size.

The thing is that both the saddles above look almost identical in their shape. the only slight difference i can see is that the side curve (drop) on the prologo was slightly more pronounced.

Specialized dealers usually have test saddles you can fit to your bike for an extended test. Might be worth a try.

Ok, so I have established that I need to move to a wider saddle (143mm), I have not tried anythin of this width before so am looking for suggestions. I like the look/idea of the specialized BG range (especially the phenom), but am not so convinced on the price.
I've seen the selle italia sl XC for ~$40, and that seems like it might be the way to go at the moment.
However I am very open to suggestions. I guess I'd like to stay under the $100 region, preferably including freight.

All suggestions welcome.

My suggestion would be to work out your sit bone measurement then buy a saddle to suit the width of your air bones, I tried 10+ saddles then got fitted for width at a specialized body geometry dealer, 80 bucks later I have the most comfortable seat I've ever sat on, and have got 3 more since for my other bikes

WTB Pure V is perfect for you. If weight is not an issue you can get the basic model for under $60 but I would suggest the SLT version for $95 from Chain reaction http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=58325

Most uncomfortable saddle ever made. Sooooo happy someone grabbed mine from my garage sale today. Seriously god awful, pain inducing instrument of torture....and I'm only 70kg and only ride duallies.
135 grams of cancerous horror.
I like my bellaire, and a few other pretty generic seats, so I can't really offer any recommendations sorry.

I had the SLR flow and though it was great. You needed to get angle/position pretty exact though because they are such a streamline type of saddle.

i had an SLR flow as well on a roadie and though it was excellent i have a flite now(not the flow version)and i find that good for me too,my mate went and did the specialised saddle thing after not much luck with some others,he's over 100kg's and happy as with the saddle he's got now.they had a few test saddles he tried out first.

Im enjoying my Sportourer (by Selle Italia) Zeta Gel. Lots of comfort and support for my large arse.

I do have a WTB Lazer V, but its too hard for my arsebone. It may get better as i lose weight.

Fizik have a test prgram as well; jump onto Sola Sports, the Aus distributor to find if there's a shop near you who is a participating dealer & work your way through the range. As a general guide, their saddles are designed to suit different degrees of rider flexibility. The Tundra is a very flat shape, ideally suited to flexible riders. I didn't like it 'cos it felt like it always wanted to throw me off the back of it. The Gobi is the mid-range one, which I use. The Aliante is deeply curved lengthwise, designed to "cradle" a rider who doesn't have a lot of flexibility.

I have tried about 8 - 10 different saddles (pretty much been a trial & error process). I have finally found 'the' saddle, for me anyway. I just thought a sore ass was something you just had to put up with on the bike. But this saddle suits me perfectly. The reviews on CRC give you a rough guide on its performance.

I will soon be getting another for the road bike.
