Sealant thoughts

Used squirt seal a few times now, seems fine. Bit of stuffing around putting in the latex goo and granules.
Will go back to stans me thinks after all used up.
 
I used to run plain Stan’s, and tried a couple of others but I kept ripping holes in tyres and the plain Stan’s wouldn’t seal. Started using Stan’s Race and no problems since and has sealed up a few biggish holes. The big goobers in it means you can’t really use a syringe to top it up through the valve so have to pop a bead which is no biggie.
But it’s been ages since I’ve punctured at all.
 
Anyone ever tried a 50/50 mix of normal Stans and Stans Race sealant? Seems like it'd be the goldilocks for the average rider. Standard Stans struggles to plug slow/weeping leaks in my experience.
 
Found a recipe somewhere around the internet. But will probably end up like my home made chain wax - cost a bomb and lots of fart arsing around with questionable carinogenic chemicals. And besides, i need to get back to self building my carbon bike frame...
I'm still keen to try it though -longer life, better sealing, blah,blah.
Latex, antifreeze, glitter and water. Apparently lasts a year in tyre.
 
Are people here talking Stans or Stans race? From what I read Race needs to be topped up every 2-3 weeks.

I looked into it in the past, but at the time the cost to fart arse-ing ratio wasn't really in the favour of a home-brew trial.

Friday I used pretty much the last of my super cheap monkey sauce sealant stash in one of my removalist trolley tubes (fking worked a treat too!).

Today I'm looking at sealant prices and at antifreeze/latex prices.

$34/l for OKO milk sealant ($47 delivered) was the cheapest I could find.

$23.50/l for home-brew.


I'm giving it a go.

It always occurred to me that products like chain lube and sealant would have a huge profit margin once you had your working magic formula.
 
I want sealant in a 2 part mix. Something dry you put in the tyre, then seat the tyre, then the liquid in through the nozzle. I hate pouring sealant that works well in the tyre before seating as I struggle to seat it without a compressor and half of it goes everywhere. Then all of it goes everywhere. Then I go to the shops to get more. Then spill some of it. Then after an hour and half of struggle realise the valve doesnt line up with the sidewall writing.

That's the plan. I've unlimited access to natural rubber sheet offcuts so will work out the best way to "crumb it".

Have you seen those 80 grit Roloc sanding discs? Make all the dust you want!

(I imagine there would be some expectation to clean all of it up afterwards too, not just collect a pile and leave the mess! 🤫)

EDIT: Please don't wash any waste rubber dust down the drain, it does bad things to fishies reproductive sexytimes.
