Your shoes lasted 2 years of skating??? Geez! I got 6 months out of a pair of DCs, and that was ages in my book. The cheap shoes I'd get would last about 2 months, but they'd cost stuff all. It's nice to have some decent ones for normal use though, I'm happy with my Airwalks ($50, who can argue?) especially when you spend all day on your feet.

Ugh, anything with a thick sole is horrid to ride, I love skate shoes for the feel, subtle movements on the pedal can be done with accuracy, and the sole flex is bearable considering its advantages.
