Should I bin this carbon bar?

Hurts. Requires Money. And is nerdy.
every bikes a compromise. you need to own a few before you figure out what you want.

Lots of newbies get pushed towards a trance for it’s “itll do everything” style. Then aftwr abit they discover they’d rather have a bile that leans abit more i a different direction. That’s not the trances fault

Exactly...pushed.

Was a funny experience recently...attend local bike shop, advise of the specific item I wish to purchase, import had directed me to this specific lbs, they give me the 1000 questions, then try to sell me the latest newest fresh design 29er in their flagship brand. Hmmmmmmmmm...did they not listen to anything I'd said? Fuck I didn't want them to have my money!!! They got it and not even for the item I went there for, but definitely not for the 29er they wanted to sell me.

I'm sure the trance would be a fine bike, if it didn't sit well out in no-bike's land. Giant make a better xc/trail bike and a better enduro bike. I've known a few people who buy a trance and the realise they either need to lighten up or bulk up and loose out moving the middle of the road on. Usually after a futile effort to alter the spec and fix the ride.
I get what you’re saying. But every bike (and car. And just about any consumer product...) has its niche...

For me, the Trance is right. I ran out of suspension on the Anthem, but I don’t have the skills/balls/fitness to do a Reign justice (to use the Giant range as a descriptor). I treat the Trance as a XC bike with attitude - it climbs but is fun.

I guess there a lot of people like me given their sales figures...

I didn’t get sold it as a do everything bike. I just like the way it rides. Not sure I’m a newbie - been riding MTB for over 30 years... Just not so many bikes in the interim.

I reckon the Maestro is shithot. I like the way it climbs, it is waaaay more talented on the downs than I am (as has been established...) and just feels good to me.

It also helps I got a cracking deal on it!

^ there sure is! Very accessible brand the old giant. Could you hurry up and buy a new bike already? Don't be afraid to try a different brand next time...

They'll probably still be made by giant anyway.

I still don’t have that Banshee @moorey promised... I’m starting to suspect he wasn’t being sincere :(

He got that second one in fast...maestro is shit. It pedals like a slug and has marginally less harshness than a single pivot. And it's just a shitty knock off of much better implementations of the virtual pivot designs.

I am not a fan if it myself but I think different geo and suspensions systems suit different body shapes, rider weight and skills. Plenty of people love it.
I am still looking for the perfect set up for a fat unco overly tall dude.

Back on topic - ‘should I bin this’ should be a regular thread as I am sure people here are pushing the limits of stuff that should have been binned years ago.

I've owned (giant) maestro, (Santa Cruz) vpp, (weagle) DW link, (Canfield) parallel link (though I'm not sure what they called it...currently has a new name CBF, but I think it is a little refined on the older style). There might be something else in there I am forgetting, I've owned quite a few bikes. Of all these designs, maestro was the shittest by a long way. Heaven forbid I would even prefer the specialised FSR system.

The shining glory of giant bikes is their (almost) unbeatable value for money and market penetration backed up by pretty good warranty support.

The ibis thread?

Before slamming giant falls off the radar; among my friends who have owned giant (there's obviously plenty...they're a huge company) dual suspension bikes, the only ones who have maintained a long running love affair have been those who have not ridden other brands.

I have came back to Giant after owning Titus, Nicolai and Transition.

Look, I get it, you don't like Giant. That's fine. We like them, that's fine as well.
Do we like a shit bike? Maybe. I don't care, it does what I want and it's more of a ride than I need.
Would I be happier with a other bikes? Probably. Probably not. I have tried with mixed results myself.
