Hi folks,
Here is a promo video from the 2017 Simpson Desert Bike Challenge. Small crew of 11 riders this year covered 593kms from Purni Bore in South Oz to Birdsville in Qld over 9 stages in 4.5 days. Only 4 completed the entire course. (The others were swept on at least 1 stage)
Amazing conditions this year 45 and 50 degrees on days 1 and 2 ( but luckily no real wind) and then 15 degrees and rain - and mud - mud you wouldn't believe, on Day 3.
It is truely an amazing event. Best support crews and organisers ever. Simply amazing environment. Raising money for the Royal Flying Doctors.
The event is now over 30 years old and less than 300 riders have completed 100% of the course. In 2008 not one rider made the 100% ( conditions were incredibly tough that year!).
So, if you are looking for a different personal challenge...I can highly recommend this one
