SIZING DILEMA - Advice, opinions and banter welcome

hey fellas,

Got a dilemma with trying to get the wife on a DH rig that actually fits her somewhat...

She's 158cm (5'1) and has had a 15" frame UMF Duncan2 rig before...but having a 74cm leg inseam meant that it still felt huge for her especially since she cand just throw a leg over the bike and stand both feet on the ground...even standing in front of the saddle.

Soooo...Got my eyes on Scott Voltage FR20 (short) the measurement indicated in the pic below is reported to be 72cm. Her inseam is 74cm...so she is still going to have the same prob to a degree.

Any other DH rigs that come up for sale second hand that are a smaller size than the Scotts short frame? I don't have huge budget either...and Smalls are few and far between in the sub $1500 price bracket.

Ideas, advice, genarall banter anyone?

I've got a 2008 Giant Reign so not quite a DH rig but still very capable. It's a 16" frame and the top tube is 67.5cm to the ground. That might be an option if she doesn't need a full on DH rig.

Another option may be a look at high end 24" kids DH bikes?

have a look at the slopestyle bikes, ns soda etc. if she is small weight and full 8 inch travel shouldn't be a problem, my daughter who is a bit smaller still rides an old ecx perfectly.

demo's seem to have a lower slung frame and theres plenty around I couldn't tell you sizing but im sure its not hard to find using modern interwebs technology

Have a look at the Specialized SX Trail, my son had one a few years ago, which we sold to a girl about the same height as your wife, she loved it.

My wife is 160-161cm ish...either way, she is a midget person with legs that stop around her knees somewhere and she is more than comfy on a small 2011 Bighit. Tried a demo in XS an S as well and they were both great but it just came down to price and how much she actually rides it. Shes ridden it over in whis no problems and does a couple of the easier tracks around brissie on it

Not sure on the sizings. But have a look at the 2009-2010 norcos with the s-shape top tubes. Or any bikes with the same type of top tubes. Looks to have a good stand over height on them.

Standover on my large is about 760mm, can't imagine it is much less on the small due to the shock/linkage arrangement (and they all have the same rear end). There was 24 inch Norco with boxxers on scumtree the other nighthttp://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/port-macquarie-2444/bicycles/norco-b-line-24-inch-mtb/1022767214. My (again large) Intense SlopeStyle has a 720 standover and would kill it for a girly DH rider (I offer myself as proof) but budget and availability maybe an issue.
