Specialized Big Hit 2

Thought it was a good time to start a thread for my Big Hit, even though its fairly old, I've been out almost every night on it at my local (Stromlo) rain, hail and nighttime.
Most of the parts are still factory, with the shocks being rebuilt almost on the first time out. Coming from BMX its certainly another world, a rather more expensive world.
I do like the climb at Stromlo, and think this bike is pretty good at it apart from a few pedal strikes, but I haven't had the chance to ride much else.
I will keep this thread updated as we progress through the year.

Any recommendations, please let me know. Semi confident rider.

Frame - Aluminium
Rear shock - Fox Van R coil. 7.5inches travel. Titanium spring fitted (spare part of another bike)
Front shock/fork - RockShox Domain 302 Coil, 180mm travel

Gave the bike a wax on the weekend.
I spend alot of time on this steed, in the many weather conditions present in Canberra, lately she has been covered in fine dust from Stromlo and Majura, but with the recent rains and the mud starting to build up, I thought this weekend with the great weather would be the perfect time to give her a wash and a quick coating.
Even though she is old and I find more and more rock chips every time I give her a wash, she still presents great though, but definitely would get the next bike wrapped.

I use car products to wax the bike and ceramic coat the painted components of the rear shock to ensure she stays clean while hidden amongst the frame.

And while I did have this fitted to a previous bike, its time to move it on.

I always try to catch the sunset, yesterdays storm over Canberra was pretty cool while riding through Majura with the lightning strikes around.
Finished off the ride with a quick 'puddle bath' near Ikea so the bike was free of most of the mud.

Took the bike out today after a month off while I travelled overseas.
Missed riding. First bit of trail and unfortunately did a tube (I know old school 'tube')
Replaced with a new Maxxis downhill tube and currently on the hunt for some new treads.
Bit of a dull day for photos with the orange sunset only peeking through a sliver of cloud.

What a bugger! Good incentive to go tubeless if you can though. Looks like a nice place to go for a ride anyway.

Slowly learning more.
Turns out the downhill tubes are double the weight of my standard tubes that were previously fitted and are still in my dirt jumper.

Just some info:
Maxxis Freeride tube 294grams.
Maxxis downhill tube 468grams.

Doesnt make much difference given my tyres are due for replacement, but worth keeping in mind if your chasing the grams.

Rode it out tonight, just a quick lap of Stromlo. Have to gain some fitness back after a month off the bike.

Another successful ride at Stromlo, finally starting to see some decent results, (from my fitness, no Strava KOM's here) after a few months of travelling and drinking lots of brews.

Also after a few thousand kms over the past few years finally put a new set of rear pads in (old pads were over half worn, but old).
Especially after coming across a thread with the difficulty of avid 4's I was thinking it was going to be an epic job with a six pack or more required.
Turned out to be fairly simple, lets hope for another few years of use out of the next set.


Still holding out for a new bike.

New DH tyres to go on in the next few weeks (if you have some 26's and are willing to send to Canberra let me know)

With Bright only a few weeks away and keeping this thread up to date as a personal diary. Here are some shots from last years visit to Bright. My first time there, annoyingly did the ride to the top before learning of the shuttle service.
Not much has changed apart from minor details like the spring, seat, new pads, new skills and a whole lot of rock chips (which are mostly covered by stickers.).

And the all important stop at the Bright Brewery, although I got some take aways since I don't drink with a 5 hour trip home to Canberra ahead.

If anyone is around any of the trails I frequent or has some time around Bright or falls to show me/maybe a few others around that would be much appreciated, happy to pay in beers etc.

I wont have my camera on me sadly (to risky last year doing the Hero trail and still being a newbie) but always up for a shoot of anyones bike or themselves riding anytime.
