SRAM Guide RS Brakes - Lever slow to return

Side note have any of you contacted your LBS about this issue? seems to be alot of effort going into a problem that is fixed with WAY less effort,

I always find it funny when people put heaps of work into fixing something before contacting someone who may fix it, just had a pair of levers replaced FOC by Sram, they were replaced with a revised/updated lever.

when I used to do alot of work for a specialist area of the industry it used to amuse me the amount of effort and stress put into problems that would just go away if you called a decent shop.
Fair point but I'm pretty sure link gets much more satisfaction from making the problem go away himself.

I heard the new ones shit themselves in time as well? Anyone had a long period of time on them?

Ive been amazed too at the length you guys have gone to rectify the issue. I myself have a faulty lever and like most am out of warranty and have looked into the rebuild kits and hacks but the easy answer is too just upgrade to the ultimate levers. Brakes are the most important part on your bike and something not worth taking shortcuts with.

Interesting comment. I don't think that replacing the faulty part with the new, redesigned part is hardly "lengths", a "hack" or a shortcut.

I would put the question to you; why spend hundreds of dollars rectifying an issue that can be fixed with a $20 fix?

Link is exploring an alternative solution, his choice, his brakes, and again, hardly a shortcut.

do some research and you will realise that the upgrade internals have only some success with most people having the same issue happen again. If you are lucky to still be in warranty then go through sram but im not dicking around with brakes on a DH bike wondering if they are going to fail again.Whats 300 to 600 bucks on new brakes on a multi thousand dollar bike.

Why do you assume I haven't done the research? And again, my bike, my choice, what's it got to do with you?

Why would I spend up to $600 to achieve the same result a $20 fix every 12 months or so achieves?

If your happy fixing your brakes every 6 to 12 months i don't have a problem with that and i don't have a problem with how anyone fixes there bike.

Similar to theway you assume that some people wouldn't pay to make it go away permanently with $$$ vs routine parts replacement? Not having a go as I respect Link's dedication to a solution, everyone's different.

Tinkering and DIY solutions that are above and beyond oem performance are very satisfying when successfully pulled off.

At least you guys get warranty hey Shimano.

Well where is the fun in that?

No warranty with any of mine (ironically my office is 100m from SRAM, all of my couriers have truck loads of SRAM and RS daily)

Pretty sure if link came up with a successful permanent solution there'd be money to be made. I know I'd throw him some money and I don't even have a problem yet.

Yep, pretty much sums it up. I don't have a cost control manager bitching at me to cut costs and maximise profits which results in sacrificing reliability and serviceability. I go for a ride mainly at night. Failure at night on a solo ride isn't an option.

One day I hope to stumble upon a solution to a problem worth millions.........

merc blue, you've missed the point entirely ,this is a fix to a problem ( in our case) that can't be fixed long term by sram,if it wasn't for guys like link and others nothing in this world would get fixed.....ever.......
link, keep up the good work, the entire western world awaits your final outcome..........
( ok maybe not the hole world)

To get back on track... Any progress with getting some mules turned up for a test? A friends bike is now suffering from this as well.
