I wouldn't cop that at all. For the price you're paying, if that's new out of the box, I'd be demanding a replacement.
Yeah. +1 on that.
If they were 1/2 price off 'some dude' on Gumtree then you may have to suck it up. But for full retail, you'd expect full retail quality

I wouldn't let the citrus degreaser get inbetween the stanchion and crown where it's pressed in. Hello creaky forks

For a grand i would expect a better product than that. Keep away from any sort of scraper or hard rubbing that can scratch the surface. Have the supplier take a look / remove any marks so you don't get caught with a dud.

Little update...

It came off with citrus degreaser and some elbow grease. I changed the travel last night and it's good to go.

The seller agreed to keep and eye on it and if necessary, there was a 2yr warranty so all good.

Thanks to everyone that contributed. Appreciated.

Just out of curiosity...... Did you try tasting the sludge? Maybe it was soft drink from some factory kid's exploding pop can.
