Static shocks

I know there’s more than a few super geeks here that understand all sorts of shit I don’t.
So I have this tracksaw I run through a supposed ‘anti static’ hose and power lead combo into my shop vac.
I’ve been using this hose and vac with my now dead Makita track saw for a few years and never experienced any sort of static shocks through touching the hose.
Picked up this used tracksaw and the bloody thing- or the hose is zapping me left right and centre. I literally have to wear rubber work gloves but on long sheet cuts the build up gets so bad it’s even getting through those!
No other tools- sanders, Dominos etc are causing and issue. Just this one saw.

Any ideas why and any way I can ground it or something. It’s getting ridiculous and I really don’t want to have to wear my best gimp suit at the workshop.

I was squatting checking out some posts for a deck and started to get itchy and sore legs. Figured it was a combo of the saw dust I was covered in and the stupid position I was stuck in. Nope, after a few more posts I realised that I had sliced the outer on the power cord and the brown and blue were sitting on the top of my leg. I am NOT smart enough to answer your question. Or to be left unsupervised.

What's your 5G status like @Jpez ?

When were the tools last tested and tagged?
What is this ‘test and tag’ you speak of? And 5G NFI. I’m still on 3G!

I thought though that static electricity build up is a different thing entirely than mains electricity issue? NFI. that’s why I’m asking the hive mind.

Is it static or 240v? Do the tongue test.
Does it trip an rcd box if you plug it into one?

Ok tongue test just resulted in a blister.
Im assuming it’s static. Static is a well known issue with dust in hoses. But if I use my standard non anti static shop vac hose there is no issue.
Just plugged it into my rcd and no tripping.

I'd guess the dust going through the pipe of the vacuum is building up a charge. As to why it never happened before it probably amounts to a million in one reasons, somehow you're in the perfect environment to build a charge up. Just send the apprentice or office lady to touch it first :D. Maybe get a sparky to use a megger on the electrical cable, never know with secondhand shit.

Sounds like your tools are 5G ready and your 3G status doesn't know what to do with the extra capacity, so it is blasting it out like static.

i don't science real good and am working for a large employer, so no easy answer on offer. But if we were getting static from an electric powered tool/device (eg coffee grinder, milk shake maker, vacuum cleaner, drill, and so on) it would get put off duty until it could be tested, repaired/replaced as required, and tagged. I got to report an icecream freezer recently which was apparently very inconvenient to others in my team. I suggest less inconvenient than being electrocuted from a faulty chord.

They recommended checking out this place

If its just a knick in the cable though, there are places 'repair cafes' they seem to call them that can usually do you a new cord on them for pretty cheap and you get to learn to. I used to do that with my job site tools when I was Tiling to save money (Apprentice wages)

Copper wire up the inside of the hose. One end earthed to the tool body other free.
It’s an anti static hose. Wouldn’t it already have something like that?

Those fuckwits on the Festool group knew nothing! No help at all. It’s like here. They’re like collectors. They buy big stacks of boxes of every Festool imaginable and post photos of their 10ft stacks of pristine systainers but don’t even use them!

I did actually check it with a brand new cable I have. So that at least rules that the cable out.

Its expensive stuff, maybe it needs the matching Festool dust extractor to work properly :)
