From multiple personal experiences, the police won't give a fuck. This goes straight into the too hard basket. If you want it back you'll either need to buy it or steal it.

It's just like any public service, you just need to find the right person, most of them are a bunch of lazy pricks, the 10% that want to do something get held back from the red tape paper work.

My daughter is in the Police Force. There is a LOT of FUCKED UP SHIT going down every day and they don't have the resources to cope with it all. A possible stolen bike that may have popped up in another state is a fair way down the priority list. If it were being ridden by a guy who just bashed his wife and kids senseless, it would be a different issue.

Calls cops:
"Someone is stealing [my bikes] from my garage!"
"Sir, we'll send a car as soon as we can, but we're really busy right now."
Hangs up.

"Don't worry about the guy stealing from my garage. I've shot him, he's not going anywhere..."
Hangs up.
Sirens - Catches thief red-handed.
"I thought you said you'd shot him?"
"I thought you said you were busy..."
