Next door did fake grass front and back when they landscaped after building. They used to get out with the leaf blower which made me giggle - sounded like they were vacuuming the green carpet. They have since made no effort to maintain the landscaping and the weeds and blackberries have grown up through it. I assume they will have to cut the weeds out as pulling them up will lift large sections of the "grass".

Yeah it's good that they don't really grow in winter and die in summer. You should see my neighbour's lawn. It would make a lot of golfing greens look bad.

I have a 2-3 people in my street who water the lawn religously in summer yep looks nice. I did it one summer and then joined the "Nah stuff it" people and wait till it rains in March.

I have a few neighbors who still mow the lawns in summer well not mowing lawns just mowing dust really. I don't know why they do it. Bored I guess. They should get a MTB and get out there.

@Mr Crudley perhaps your neighbour doesn't care about the vine living or dying? If so the occasional poisoning over the fence should see the end of it. These days my poison of choice is boiling water. Very effective, not that toxic. But in the past when I have needed to deliver a poisoning fast and on the move store brought is effective.

Last weekend heard a guy talking on phone standing out front, "nah, don't think it's been broken into yet"

I have a few neighbors who still mow the lawns in summer well not mowing lawns just mowing dust really. I don't know why they do it. Bored I guess. They should get a MTB and get out there.

When it gets hot over December to late February then going s notch or two higher on the mower helps to keep a lot of moisture in the grass.

Risks it thatching and getting all phat, but I think is a better option than letting it turn brown or yellow from the heat. Guess it depends on where you live and summer heat there.

I have tried some boiled water guerilla tactic offensive gardening but didn't stop it much. It need the roots ripped out IMHO. This plant is tough.

Following the Romans, I have given it gentle dose of salt which helped but unfortunately rain came and stopped that offensive. Might give it shot again but will need a generous few kilos in spring when it takes off but also spring rain might mess it up.

Or hit up the rural gardening store that should have the mother of all herbicides.

Personal experience says persistence and patience. Just keep heaping it on. Kill the foliage, kill the vines, kill the roots. Run at it hard for a few days at a time. You'll win eventually but it is more than just a once off misting.

I always find that during growing season (spring) if you cut a few branches and paint neat undiluted round up on the the cut portion (not the bit you cut off) immediately that will kill most things dead in a month. If it's really hardy a second dose 2 weeks in will knock it off.
I use this method for blackberries around my dam / river where spraying isn't an option and it's remarkably effective

I think you are spot on there. This one is a boss level vine and not a quick or easy one to remove unless you have access to the roots. Containment is the thing and playing the long game.

When I moved to Perth my special someone had some crazy arse vine all over the back fence that had popped up on the footpath behind the house. As discussed im a lazy gardener but I also had to make it through 2 weeks of being in quarantine. Time for coffee? Think I'll take it nude in the back yard, get some winter sun, and throw a couple of kettle loads on the weed...time for tea? It was all gone by the time I cleared quarantine and she was allowed back in the house.

A mate of mine bought a house and land package couple of years back in a new estate. His neighbour on one side was already living next door whilst my mate's house was being built. This neighbour had a camera pointing directly into my mates yard.

After the house was built and my mate moved in he spoke to ol' mate next door and said thanks for keeping an eye on my place with your camera whilst it was getting built, but we've moved in now so you can point it in your own yard thanks. Ol' mate said it's not pointing in your yard.

So every time my mate went in the yard after that time he did so naked. Ol' mate neighbour now doesn't talk to him and after a few days promptly moved his camera.

This plant is in the for the long haul.

If I get into some nude gardening, which does sound oddly compelling, then I think I would risk skin cancer on my butt as this vine will take some repeated trips with a boiling kettle to show it who is boss.
