Stromlo crit track petition

So it seems as well as sticking a big swimming pool in (which only affected about 100m of very plain trail) they want to put playing fields in at the expense of part of the crit track. The pool I get, there is one big indoor pool in Canberra at the AIS. But the playing fields can go somewhere else, we have too many playing fields that don't get enough use already. Here's the link:

ABC radio this morning spoke to the Gov and apparently this is not what's happening despite being drawn on the master plan. Still against the playing fields, it looks like they will take over the Brittle Gums riding area. It also looks like an extension to the crit track is on the master plan which would effectively make it longer than it is now even with the loss indicated on the plan.

So the person who made the petition has had a knee-jerk reaction to a master plan map, didn't contact the gov to find out, and didn't actually read the master plan page which says the playing fields are not funded.

But this is what sucks: "While cycling, equestrian, running and walking will continue to be key activities within the Park it is also becoming an integral recreation resource for the residents of Molonglo. "

IMHO they should get their own playing fields planned in their suburbs, not at this specialist facility. Don't get me started on the overcrowding of Cooleman Court by the Molongloids!

Just posted this to the petition guy:

Hi Sam, you might also note that the paying fields are not funded, that the master plan is apsirational and will change as things are funded, and that the goverment has stated that they will not be touching the existing crit track on ABC radio this morning. While I agree with the premise of not having any playing fields at this facility because of other reasons you state, the crit track extension is in the same book as the playing fields. Clearly the plan needs updating, and perhaps your petition will get the attention of government and prompt them to do more stakeholder consultation before progressing these other non-core activities to serve the local residents when this is in fact a national facility.
