TASSIE NATS DH course update

quick update on the Glenorchy DH track- round 2 of the national series:

Excavation has begun on the finish area of the DH. The little step down before the tabletop has been beefed up big time. With a fall of around 1.5m and a gap of 9m it is absolute gold to hit now. This drops straight into a 2m high 12m long table top where you can get some very decent airtime. A huge left hand berm then shoots you into a big bowled out step down (this was originally there but has been made bigger). Straight after the step down you hit a 1.5m take off into a near 3m high step up landing (new jump). This is as far as we've got so far but on monday I'll be excavating 2 huge berms down to the finish and finishing the landing for the big step up. Basically the jumps make the finish area way more exciting (for riders and spectators), much faster, yet with way less pedalling. They're all case freindly so its all pretty large but not too daunting. I'll post a short vid of this section soon.

On sunday the new treated pine start ramp went in which makes for a much easier and faster start gate. There's also been a few changes to the start section.

further down, leading into tombstone we've gone nuts with the berms. This section is now a supertight luge of linked berms right up to the drop itself.

With lots more new setions and mods planned it should shape up well before you all get down here...I'll update here as we get more done.

I have pics but its freshly excavated so they dont really do it justice. I'll get some riding shots of it tomorrow and post them up.
I had a full day with the excavator today and got the step up nearly finished- this thing is HUGE we used well over 100 truck loads of fill just for the landing! It's now a 1.5m kicker up to a 3m+ high landing. Will be cutting in a few transfer gaps onto it as well.
With the machines in again next monday we'll have the last few monster berms cut in to the finish line and it'll be gold. With a gas pipeline going in locally we are getting all their fill. Basically constant truck loads of fill for weeks if we wanted it all....cant ask for much more than that!

I should add that if anyone who rode the track last year has suggestions/comments I'd like to hear them

sounds like that last bit should be a really fun now, I might have to go check it out tomorrow:D

Is the finish still going to be where it has always been? From the sounds of things its moved:confused:

The only suggestion I could make would be that it could be good to have a real techy section somewhere (most likely top half) on the track.

I agree about the techy section. Its the only thing the track doesnt have, we have a few plans we just dont have that much large rock to work with. I'll be getting a winch in soon so we can move some bigger rocks around for a nice tech slow rock garden...
As for the finish it is in the same spot as last year.

I'd prefer it up top somewhere, there's bugger all big rocks up there though. Am hoping to get one tech rock garden in higher up. We are planning to change last years main rockgarden (about half way down) into a much longer, bigger, slower affair. Just waiting on the winch to move some more serious rock. Also the section between the up hill rock garden and the brief fire road section will be pretty tech by the time we're finished with it. Aiming to keep the top half of the course pretty rough, loose and technical, then the lower half will be smoother, faster and with more flow...

yeah leave the last section pretty much as it is, its got really good flow and is probably the funnest bit of the track to ride fast.

So are you planning on changing the rock garden that you just recently changed before the last race, the one just before the switchback?

the last section will have only minor changes which will just make it even better.

the 14m table- thinking about pulling it out another 2m as its pretty easy to clear, heres a sequence:
