Tell me about riding in Bright

Thanks RoB. I believe it was you who helped me with my bike issues when I came into the store last Christmas. Thanks for all your good work in the shop and on the trails.
May have been or one of my staff. Either way, thanks for the kind words. I hope to see you on trail soon

How does the area hold up in winter, any issues with the wet? particularly if it is a dry weekend and hasn't been a major downpour for a few days?
It fairs well if you dont mind slippery exposed roots/rock. Some trails (bottom of hero) become treacherous; but most fair well. We ride year round.

I think a leaf blower might be a good idea.

That initiative deserves it's own thread. I saw the posters when I was in town and thought it was a great way to collaborate on trails.

Perfect for cx riding.
I appreciate your optimisium. It h a s been a lot of hard work by a lot of great people but Bright/Alpine Shire is becoming a well rounded ride destination.

I however am very normal. Trust me.

Yeah the area is great for CX, I have enjoyed the rail trail in the area a few times.

Also around Mt Beauty is pretty nice too, not sure I'd be tempted to take the CX bike down hero?

Another issue is there is only room for two bikes on the car, and which ones to bring?

DH or AM bike? or both?
XC bike and either DH/AM bikes?
CX bike and either DH/AM bikes?
AM bike so I can ride a bit of everything and the Mrs XC bike do some some rail trail?
Road bike + DH/AM bike, although if I ride to either hotham or falls and return wont have any legs lefts to enjoy the bike park.

Kind of highlights how good the area is for cyclists over pretty much any where else, and props to the people who had the vision to make it happen - advocate strongly enough.

Will aim for a late winter trip if weather looks promising.

Up hero, down world cup.

I was impressed with the area for cycling, coffee, and food. The village had a great vibe. If only there was an easy public transport in/out option!
I reckon it's easy enough. We usually spend 2-3 weeks at Bright over Christmas and when I'm on shift I commute back and forth every 4 days. Bus from Bright to Wangaratta then Vline to Spencer St (I hate the name Southern Cross...) It takes about 5 hours compared to ~4 in the car... and I can sleep most of the way home:)

I keep a spare 2 bike roof rack mount rack in the shed for just such a conundrum. Normally it goes on when the kids' bikes have to come along for the weekend. Happy to lend it out to like minded souls.

Sadly that is the opposite direction for me.

Saw a group of 1/2 dozen CX guys all in matching team kit starting down hero.. needless to say the idea appeared to be quickly abandoned.. didnt see them again that day :)
Haha, i'd be wearing a full face and every bit or armor I owned on the CX bike, its rated to 15cm high drops, so If i keep it low and flatout it should all be good :crutch:

You've got this. That wall ride near the top will come in handy for staying low as well.

Heading here in 3 weeks, have not been in Bright for about 3 years. Theres a few new trails been happening since I was last there.

Question, can my missus shuttle us up the Hero trail ? She lives for shuttling us 3 boys, then grabbing coffee/candy crush time at the bottom. Loves to see us happy....

You can shuttle to the top or to the hero turn around. My preferred run is shuttle to the top, ride all mountain or world cup and join onto hero.

Any chance of some shares? She sounds like a keeper!

She can shuttle you guys easily enough. There is a drop off at the start of hero where the jump line is which she will be able to watch you guys on easily as well and also a drop at the top of the dh course and hang glider launch pad. The pick up point can be a little tricky to work out on the early laps. There isn't any coffee near the track, so stock up before leaving town. Not sure what her needs are like, but if she needs to go back into town you guys can happily session segments of the trail (such as the jumps at the too) to keep busy.

Alternatively visit your favourite local Asian grocery specialist and stock up on cans of Japanese coffee. That will keep her wired. It may even give her the candy crush edge.

The last time the tried we could drive all the way to the top
Awesome ! Thanks.

I remember the last time we were there, driving up the hill to the launch pad area. Good to hear the roads are open.

Heading up there in a couple of weeks time with the family. Thankfully I am taking my bike with me and will have the opportunity to get out for half a day or so.

Any recommendation on a loop to ride? I'll be on a Trek Fuel Ex with a trail helmet and knee pads, so maybe no double black trails.
