Tell me about riding in Bright

nah man, in Vic I'm surprised they don't try to peg even the wildlife with a speeding fine. They'll fine everyone they can, cars, bikes, trucks, the whole enchilada. Distance over time cameras operate on the Hume, the Ring Road and the Geelong Fwy as far as I know. Those same cameras also pick up unregistered vehicles.

Not to mention that (some) red light cameras at intersections also pick up speeding and unregistered vehicles.... cameras everywhere in this goddamn state.

Not like the old days where I could accidentally sit on 160 for hours on end heading to DH Nationals.

None of those cameras will give you fines for unregistered and none of the cameras on the Geelong freeway are point to point.

Most red light cameras now will also hit you for speed as well.

I hope you're correct wkkie but this site says otherwise https://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov.au/road-safety/statistics/fine-trends... stats on number of offences on the Geelong freeway including speeding and unregistered vehicles... but you're right, they're not point to point which really surprises me https://www.camerassavelives.vic.gov.au/how-cameras-work/camera-types/point-to-point-cameras. I thought the Ring Road had distance over time cameras too.
 
Many of us would be screwed if it was point to point, circa 95% of the commuter group.. Although high way patrol are using way higher numbers over the last 2 weeks. From geelong to hoppers had 4 units plus the 2 cameras, they were making good money! Hadn't a fine in 12 years of driving, 2 in the last month. Same camera, same speed. Keen to see if it's the same photo and they just double charging me.

That fine trends just specifies infringements, not that they're from the cameras specifically. There are a few highway patrol units that are close to the freeway between Melbourne and Geelong. And then you have the local vans that get out and about as well....
 
So went recently over the weekend. Saturday hadn't rained but the morning dew was enough to make the hero trail pretty slippery with a few puddles in the tree and top sections.. Elevate (all mountain) was pretty bogged out, with very large holes in the trail that swallowed my 27.5's with ease, can't tell how much of that was design, but it seemed be full of ruts and holes. It rained hard saturday night so me and my mates called it quits (weak i know) I wanna go again once its all dried up to get a proper sense of it, but overall I'd say the hero trail is worth the journey and the other trails are just a bonus. The town of bright itself is quite nice as well. Compared to Derby, it's not even a competition, but compared to Buller and Thredbo, i think i like Bright better.
 
Anyone going to head up over some of the consecutive shuttle days? 27 Dec - 3 Feb

Would be good to chase some burners down and learn a few things
 
Bright is ace, I'd prefer to go back if I could shuttle, having to ride up that hill really restricts you. Town looks nice, didn't stay there, camped off grid in the Buckland valley.
 
Finally got to go again over the weekend. It was wet, the clay was slippery as all hell but it was still amazing. I didnt have the balls to try the mystic or world cup in the wet. But the new trail shred kelly is absolutely amazing. Better than hero, in the wet at least.
 
Just spent a few days riding in Bright, shuttles only. Been about 18 months since I was last there. Overall great experience.

The top section of hero trail needs to be renamed Jack Hammer Marbles, its very blown out, you'd be pinging all over the place and still struggle just to get enough speed to clear some of the jumps in that section. Lower down it is a lot better, presumably that section is just getting flogged with people passing through to Shred Kellys or Down DJ.

Shred Kellys is starting to get pretty blown out just in a few spots mid berms where to cool cats like ti skid sideways guess? Good track design, well suited to pretty much any bike and skill level beside raw beginner. Down DJ in great condition, Elevation / AM is in decent shape, a few spots its pretty loose, but a rewarding trail once you get to know it. Considering it has been drying and super busy over the xmas period, realistically its holding up pretty well.

Two separate ambulance / SES events occurred the other day (and probably every day), peoples be having to much fun!
 
Today Mystic is closed. Shuttles are cancelled.
Shame bluedirt didn't let me know before hand (and still haven't contacted me) and could have saved me 6.5 hour drive from Sydney.

Fucking hate shit customer service.

Spent the last 3 weeks riding Bright and loved the early morning session. My mate and I rode up most mornings and self shuttled in the late evening. I think we hit Hero once, Shred Kelly's a few times and rode everything everything else except for Infact Hill, The EU, Ballroom Blitz and Sleepwalker. The final section of Shred Kelly's has some really fun table tops that are very user friendly (we hiked them many times as I'm still a jump sooky lala) and they offer a very easy progression for those who aren't very good at jumping. Didn't matter how many times I hit it, the hip at the bottom was quite intimidating (to me) though pretty darn fun.

We like to explore and tried the trails in Bakers Gully; the new black run, Brakenridge was a let down. It was pleasant though I wouldn't ride it again as it's out of the way and lacks any real pizazz!

Graveyard is still rad though getting very loose and slidy too. The big roll over section is getting pretty chewed up with lots of holes and ruts:( Buddah hood extension is rad though the upper rock gardens are a little contrived (to me) though that right hander over the mineshaft and the woop-de-do into the cutting on tomb raider make up for them... We only shuttled on Thursday (last week) and there were 3 accidents requiring an Ambulance; a young bloke hurt himself pretty good on Shred Kelly's, someone cut their leg somewhere else and a dude from Adelaide destroyed his shoulder on Shred Kelly's (?). I spent a bit of time with him waiting for the Ambulance and his shoulder looked pretty sad...

Credit where credit is due. Bluedirt called late in the evening and confirmed that they would be running shuttle's at Mt Beauty and Falls creek instead.
Bonus that I get to ride those 2, bummer I don't get to ride bright.

I'm pretty sure Blue Dirt lets the public know as soon as the plantation? / forest management tell them that the park is closed due to fire hazard, so unfortunately there's not much BD can do.
I was there the weekend before when on the Friday it was closed and they sent up extra shuttles to Falls which is pretty good of them.

Damn... looks like Shred Kelly is getting a few victims. On the final jump, a guy scorpioned, OTB then snapped his collarbone when I was there.

They also smoothened out the end of the last rocky section before the second forest entry of Hero. Previous trips I got two flats in that spot.
Agreed the first section of Hero is pretty damn choppy but you get used to it after a while.

Heading back on the long weekend ... yell out if you're there and up for some runs

JTmofo, my thoughts are if you've not ridden Big Hill before, try to hook up with someone who has ridden there. I've only ridden there once, maybe 3 years ago and found it pretty hard to work out. I like to explore and just ride up and down things and that didn't seem to work for me there. Every run I took was equal parts cruisey, (too easy or no flow) and terrifying (large drops/speed sections). I couldn't really find any rhythm or flow for longer than a few hundred meters at a time.

I still enjoyed it but know there are amazing lines that I wasn't able to string together...
 
Shred Kelly is nice and flowy but has a few tabletops too close together and irregularly spaced with the lips a bit small and for the inexperienced going too fast I can imagine someone jumping into the flat at the front of the down bit.
To me Bright seems to have either high end crazy black diamonds or low end blue and not so much in between.
Some of this could be a function of the terrain.

You are pretty spot on, I wager most crashes on shred kelly are getting kicked and going nose heavy into the next roller. Its not a problem at slower speeds but after a few shuttles with the grip on the trail being excellent, it gets fast fast (that looks weird but is grammatically correct).

I'd say they need another down trail from the mid / hero shuttle point or even from the top, that caters the the green onto blue crowd, but with enough sneaky A lines to keep that dads interested.
