The bike industry crisis

Certainly makes you think twice about buying from a small manufacturer.
I'll cancel my Acto order and get 5 Giants
Would 5 giants give you as much happiness as one Acto? But yes buying from a boutique/smaller brand at the moment seems to come with some risk as well.

I suppose the risk is that if something breaks on the Acto and they go out of business, then you aren't going to get much happiness if you can't buy a replacement part for it and you don't have a bike to ride.
It's probably a slight chance but the smaller the company the more of the risk.
Maybe you get more happiness from the time that you have an Acto before they go broke than you will over the lifetime of 5 Giants?? 🤔 😂

If I found a way to join them together like a big bicycle-caterpillar, yes - yes it probably would. It would be hilarious!

Except for riding it uphill - That would make for a 75-85kg bike-train...

The nostalgic part of me is sad to see GT effectively closing down, and Intense winding down or refocusing.

I have found memories of GT bikes in Hammertime, featuring 'bunny rabbit Hansy':-

I got all wound up with Intense watching Shaun Palmer in the video ChainSmoke:-

And easy on the Intense bashing. My 2020 Tracer has been great, and 2024 DJ is a ripper of a bike (even though it flicked me off last month 🫠).

Love that Hans had the water bottle in the mount while rock hopping! Also some really cool tricks around the 18 minute mark.

Then you just need 4 mates to help you power them.

The logic is all wrong.
You only need one Giant because they aren't likely to go out of business and will have spares.
You need 5 Actos, one to ride and the others just in case one breaks.
That's really the whole N+1 argument!
The dropper on my Stumpy died the other day but I have the Levo SL to ride while parts are coming.
Maybe I need a third or fourth bike incase the second or third bike broke too! 🤔

Exactly what happened to my Guerilla gravity. Didn’t stop me buying another small company bike though. 5 giants or 500 I’ll never get the joy out of them that I do with my current booteek bike. For me the risk is worth it.

Bike exchange is no more...

The best value thing about bike exchange was old (1-2yr old) bike stock that was discounted significantly.

I recommended that site to quite a few people that were looking for a "new" bike.

It was a good way to see NOS bikes in your area.

That was for sure its main use and a bloody good one. I wonder how the bike shops feel about this...
