The bike industry crisis

Are more brands next in line to be wound up? Probably.

There seems to be another insane round of new bike discounts going on again.

Close to 50% discounts on top shelf eebs from last season....

Any examples? I know someone that's in the market for a new eeeeeeb.

I've got no idea, but it would explain the Burner Ti's no show.
Good guess given the variety of ti frames Lynskey has made for other brands in the past. But I think Turner sources their current ti frames from Taiwan so if so I'd expect the vapourware FS frame to come from there too.

I think customer loyalty is diminishing around the globe these days
Bang on.

China just had their huge Shangai bike show and whilst a lot of it was whack, there was actually signs of China giving it a real go.

For the longest time I've mostly seen China as a country known for counterfeit goods when it comes to the cycling industry, but this latest show had a lot more unique and innovative designs than ever before.

It's pretty evident just how new performance cycling is to China. It's mostly road bikes (hardly any mountain bikes at the show), and as the Nero Show guys pointed out (Aussie road cyclist YouTubers who were there covering the show), there wasn't any performance oriented consumables at the show (no gels, powders etc.), which really suggests just how new to performance cycling they are as a country.

As time goes on it's evident that brand loyalty just isn't as strong as it once was in the past. I've been saying "China is taking over" for a while now, whilst it might not be true (and mostly said jokingly) it's evident that there will be so much more good stuff to come out of China, like it or not.

I'd wager China is going to be a much bigger player in the mtb market in the same way they're currently tearing their way through the car market - electric motors.

While their continued and brazen IP theft still absolutely shits me, Chinese electric motors seemingly across the board represent genuine innovation that's making the establishment take notice (Amflow being the obvious example, but no doubt they'll be others). Given they've got the power / weight issue sorted with Avinox, my guess is they'll be focusing on battery life next. It'll probably cause several current e-motor providers to either quietly copy Avinox's homework (irony) or bow out of the market.

It's a year old bike but the 2026 model is virtually identical so you would save a bunch.

Though it would be perfect with a TQ motor and a more modern 500wh battery. I'd be interested to see if they even continue the SL.

How much mark up are bike companies putting on there bikes ? That's like 60 % off.

Specilized are strange their bikes are expensive but their tyres are not. I just bought an eliminator off them for $40 even at full price $100 there cheaper than aother tyres out there.

There is a pretty big markup on everything in reality and bikes would be at the lower end.
The higher the spec of the bike the bigger the markup, so it is diminishing returns in savings as you move up to a higher spec bike.
For instance a pair of Oakley sunglasses has 200% to 300% markup.

I find ivanhoe cycles really hard to find stuff - like the product categorisations are terrible. To be fair most are rubbish - nothing was as good as pre-merger CRC.
Yeah CRC was a small shop front that became a huge online giant though. Ivanhoe are more a shopfront with online sales as a side gig. The service there is really good though.

ye brand loyalty stopped being a think like around 2013 or so and it's something every maker has struggled with, cars or mountain bikes.
