Had some lamb shanks leftover from camping last weekend, so when I got home from work yesterday I lit the pot belly, cut up some vegetables and bunged it all in a soup pot. 6-7hrs later, lamb shank and vegetable soup.

Had some lamb shanks leftover....
We bought 2 sheep from my parents for the weekend camping trip, so we had 8 roasts, chops and shanks. So we had some leftoverIn what plane of existence is it even possible to have leftover dog bones?
(There's a teaser to the back story of Dog Soup, but I'm going to leave you hanging a while longer!)
OK......
My dearly beloved and long-passed Nana had the totally irrational notion that lamb shanks are only good for dog food, and was horrified by the thought that her precious first-born AKA my dad and the rest of us would eat them, so for as long I've known we've called them Dog Bones. Most of the time they'd be served roasted with all the usual trimmings, but sometimes they'd get chucked into a soup.
So it stands to reason that soup made from Dog Bones is called Dog Soup!![]()
As the carver of the roast lamb it is my right to eat the shank as I carve the meat. I once had to be physically restrained from throwing someone out of the house as they asked if they could have the roasted lamb shank for their dog. I don't make the rules (well I guess I do) but I will follow them!!
