Hot tip.

Banksia cones are a great addition to the wood smoke.

OK......

My dearly beloved and long-passed Nana had the totally irrational notion that lamb shanks are only good for dog food, and was horrified by the thought that her precious first-born AKA my dad and the rest of us would eat them, so for as long I've known we've called them Dog Bones. Most of the time they'd be served roasted with all the usual trimmings, but sometimes they'd get chucked into a soup.

So it stands to reason that soup made from Dog Bones is called Dog Soup! 😝

This dog bone belief was not restricted to your Nana. You can add beef shanks (ossobuco) on the same list.

Another oddity was that lamb cutlets are a cut for children not adults.

As the carver of the roast lamb it is my right to eat the shank as I carve the meat. I once had to be physically restrained from throwing someone out of the house as they asked if they could have the roasted lamb shank for their dog. I don't make the rules (well I guess I do) but I will follow them!!

It isn't your fault others are uneducated on such matters...but it is also your burden that they should become educated on such matters.

I took ownership of a new stick blender this week, a light commercial one. Haven't had the urge to fire it up yet...but today!

I was doing groceries at aldi and those fuckers have jars of whole Italian black truffles. Well my local doesn't any more as I have them all. These will by no means be comparable to fresh top grade truffles for the proce and convenience I am confident of good things. For starters I'll be making some truffle butter. If you are interested in getting some black truffles at a fraction of the cost perhaps this is your sign to try aldi.

We have enough potatoes to end famine due to left overs from camping and my food-tech teacher wife starting school holidays and bringing home 2 more bags that were going to be thrown out.

First potato meal was mashed spuds.

Tonight roasted spuds on the pot bellie.
