The dirtiest bird...Ibis Ripmo AF

pink poodle

私はイナゴです
I have realised that despite owning this bike for a while, I hadn't set up a PYR. So here it is. Not only is this one of the least attractive bikes I have owned, it is also the least customised and my first real diversion from 26 inch wheels. So it has been an interesting adventure.

I don't seem to have any photos of the bike at the moment, but I've posted before so use your imagination.

Currently the bike is standard spec from when I purchased it except:
- eastern composite pedals
- dmr grips.

I have some upgrades planned, it has just taken close to a year to get around to it. What's planned? Well...
- 165mm shimano saint crank
- 34t ring (hopefully it fits!)
- shimano saint chain guide
- renthal fat bar (black) cut to 750mm with a 40mm rise
- shimano xt brakes or TRP slate t4 brakes

I was considering going all in on some purple with grups, pedals, and chain ring. But I couldn't find the purple raceface chain ring I am sure I have. So this is on hold until the chain ring turns up.

I guess I'll add some photos when I find them.

mint bike - stoked af with mine. You mighta seen the few hundred page Ripmo AF thread over at MTBR, worth a read if you haven’t. Amongst all the gushing there are a few useful setup tips I found useful. As a 95kg rider I’ve found the Cascade link made a real difference getting it to ride higher in the travel and with a bit of fine tuning it’s getting easier to get off the ground. TF for that because it was not cheap.

I have been watching your pyr. I'm not in a rush to get thr cascade link. I've barely ridden this thing, sad face. Once I get this parts swap done I will give it some steam for a bit. It is a surprisingly nimble and fun bike. But then I take the scout or Rook out for some DJ lving and remember what nikble actually is...

I’m anything but nimble so I’d probably feel like those bikes wanna kill me 🤣
Lighter riders don’t seem to have the issues that the Cascade link helps with so you’ll probably be just fine without it.

Oh there is a lot of poodle to go around. I haven't been on the scales since I left Japan in march, but I was low 90s then from months of snowboarding. I'm likely 90 to 95 at the moment. Maybe I'll find some scales. I'd hate to be deluded!

By popular demand, but well after interest had died off...about 1 year after purchase and still barely ridden, I give you...

On the day of pick up

A few days later when I actualised the colour scheme and almost instantly wanted purple instead of blue.

Upgrades!!!!

New items put on:
- saint 165mm crank (and bottom bracket)
- funn 32t n/w chain ring
- black spire chain guide (this is off the nomad, so now new)
- renthal 40mm rise bar (cut to 750mm wide)
- TRP slate 4 pot brakes

Looks a bit more freeride now. Looking forward to riding it some time soon.

I've been having a bit of a skip in the gears as well. Shop advised derailleur hang was a little bent, so that's been straightened. Gears have a minor skip here and there which I'm going to fuck around with. But if I can't easily fuck that off I may have a tantrum and say good bye 12 speed and install the 10speed set up off my old nomad. That might kill the up hill action a little though. Pfffft...I dont pedal up hill.

Holy shit whered you find a new set of Saint cranks?!?

Shhhhhhh...I know a guy. I had to give him a bit of ummmmm special treatment, but it was worth it. He'd probably hook others up for cash instead of the wristy.
He'll be giving free wristys with his free cranks when the new Saint groupset drops later this year.

Wait wait wait... Is it just one wristy for a set of Saint cranks? Doesn't seem like a bad deal for 5 minutes work (including washing your hands before and after...). 😂
You haven’t seen what you’ll be working with yet……
