Well that doesn’t get you anywhere. What?, only third generation Aussies are allowed in parliament ?
It’s not the question per se, it’s the complication of the answer.
People keep on blaming the pollies which just shows an ignorance of what has happened.
Before this last 2 months, no one had been considered a citizen of another country who had An inherited citizenship - moreover also one which they hadn’t sought or applied for. Add to that a person who had never held a foreign passport . These few things have added the dozen, maybe 2 dozen now in some sort of question, because now we have to also figure out is reasonable steps to apply to the date of acceptance, a date of sending an application, a date of accepting money, offical notification received?
Going by what I see on social media and the media generally the level of knowledge of this problem is extreme - or perhaps the willingness to comment is strongest from those with no idea. For that reason alone, a referendum is pointless because the population is too stupid or lazy to make even a ham fisted effort to understand (same goes for their leaders in the media)
The high court had the chance to draw a line in the sand, and now they are going to have to have another go. No matter how much they abstain sooner or later, they are going to have to draw really clear lines in the sand so everyone knows precisely what these new rules are that they are playing to.
