It certainly won't make a lick of difference to the lives of non-indigenous Australians so they should stop being racist and support it.

"you're not even from here in the first place, and those who are you wanna further debase"

If it makes some indigenous folk feel better, they can knock their socks off. No skin off my nose to vote yes. Im not convinced anyone is really from anywhere these days, such trivial territorial nonsense feel utterly irrelevant when we are staring down the barrel of wholesale global ecosystem collapse...

What I don’t understand is - why the Government hasn’t just put an indigenous advisory body in place already. They could start informally. Or use executive powers. Or pass a bill.
Then show everyone - This is how it works. Here are the representatives. Here are the items we consulted on.
Once it’s an established piece of the political machinery… then put it to a referendum. Let’s enshrine this body in the Constitution.
Unless it’s too much of a risk that a Liberal govt gets in and just disbands it next term without the Constitutional power?

After what Howard did to ATSIC I think you have it right there.

And please, if anyone is thinking of piping up with unfinformed rhetoric about ATSIC read this.

I agree with this in principle, but I think we can be more nuanced in how we deal with these issues. Yes, climate should be the #1 priority for all govts and communities - without security we can't have anything else. I also think that drawing lines around who we are and who owns which piece of dirt is rather backwards looking in terms of what's best for everyone. But, that's not the way the world is working, and until it does, we have to make up for the massive crimes, disadvantage and racism that has been and remains part of our existence.

We can't stop progress anywhere else until we sort out climate change, we should be moving forward on all fronts. We also can't ignore the lived situations of people who've been fucked over and are continuing to be fucked over, just because it is all pretty stupid and wasteful.

Yep agreed. The old "walk and chew gum" thing. I dont rate anyone's chances of slowing down crimes, racism and disadvantage though - these are some of humanity's favourite things!

Personally I just have a finite amount of care factor and this one is just not making it onto the list... But for others who can muster the energy, good on ya.

You usually have to take this guy with a grain of salt but this sounds legit:

I didn't realise Lerhmann was facing other rape/assault charges, that was kept very quiet.

It hasn't, it's been common knowledge on Twitter for many months that he was facing charges of rape.
This has been postponed three times now and his lawyer is chasing access to the plaintiff's previous 6 months' phone records....
You all know where they will end up...
Also, why did you think he was pressuring for the release of the CBR inquiry before the committal hearing, and his name is publicly revealed?

Fahn 'ell. What is this witchcraft?

Please someone caption this awesomely awkward situation for our beloved Barnaby !
