The stable

Figured I would post up some pics of my last build.

The frame is a 90s Colnago Master Pista. Got the frame but the previous owner had painted it a nasty baby spew attempt at gold. Had it resprayed gloss white by Paconi, with black 80s decals.

Spec wise, it's built up with Campagnolo Record cranks, seat post, aero pedals and headset, Nitto RB021 bull horn bars, Cinelli 1R stem, Phil Wood track hubs, cog and lockring with Mavic Open Pro rims, Soma Super Everwear tyre on the rear and Evenflow on the front, Colnago Precisa forks and Brooks B17 narrow saddle, bar tape and toe straps. Also blinged it out with a custom fabricated XXXX Gold handlebar shim. Went with 48/17 ratio which seems to be a good balance around town, especially given I live in a hilly area.

Happy with how it turned out, but there are still plans. Not a huge fan of the B17 seat, if I find some money to burn I might try and continue the italian theme with a leather San Marco saddle, either a regal or rolls. I love the look and feel of the Nitto bullhorns, but will probably consider swapping them out for a nice set of track drops if I come across a set.

Either way, it's a wickedly fast bike and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun riding it...

Beautiful 'Nago!

A rolls would set this off. Royale's look garbage IMO.

Also, find some sweet Cinelli track drops to match the stem. There are a few sets on eBay right now!

Trashbaggin'

Don't worry, I've got plenty of practice runs down the Paris Hilton/Trash Can (Bag?) end of the spectrum. The observant among you will notice that the following are three iterations of the same frame. A new rattle can paint job is as good as a holiday...

So from oldest to youngest:

Ordered a $150 track frame delivered from China. Will let you know how it goes, I think it's one of the unbranded Visp ones, but in a matt black.

EOIs in a 49cm Fuji track frame? Great condition, no cracks. I'm just under 6 foot and it's obviously a little too small, but super whippy and maneuverable.

Only about 10cm under size. Nah that'll be fine:roll: did you at least get the new frame in a much bigger size?
Got a 56cm, I guess I'd fit the 58cm if I wanted a proper track bike but I want something just a little smaller. If it lasts for 6 months I'll be happy :single_eye:

I originally bought this bike off a mate just for the components, knowing the frame was way too small and I'm only just around the finally doing something about it.

56 in the visp will be fine for you. they run a little small.

my last bike was a visp, a 54 and that was great. I'm 179cm....

proper 54sq frames fit me best.

they are also bombproof, mine copped heaps of abuse before i got another steel frame! Once a mates girl stops borrowing it, i'm going to repaint it and give it a little make over as a thrasher if I dont want to kill my back on the pursuit.

Can't quite tell the difference between the branded and unbranded but it's one of these.

I'll get back to you with the pics viv- I think it's a 2008, I'll include a headset and seat clamp.

So I set the headset cups into my new VISP frame, and as I understand it's a zero stack style, will there be any difference between the top and bottom cups, because I can't tell whether I actually did it the right way up.

Any tips for ghettoing the crown race on? There's a step in diameter on the fork steerer about 1/2 an inch from the crown, and it seems just too wide to to fit the race.

Then as I understand I have to set the star fangled nut (which I will need a proper tool for) and then screw it all together with stem? Never dealt with a threadless headset of any kind before.

You can use a vacuum cleaner tube + a mallet to belt the crown race on, put a little grease on it to help it slide on. And yes, there's no way to ghetto the star nut unless you've got luck on your side. But I wouldn't push it.
