The QUICK question thread.....

I'd have to check the brand on ours (it's French, I think) but it was recommended and supplied by our sparkie. It's very good. Wasn't too pricey either.
@fjohn860 Sorry, I forgot!!! https://www.rexel.com.au/are/catego.../CAULKING-GUN-HEAVY-DUTY/BIZ710320/p/14196161

are you after a specific element or a spectrum for general ID? XRF or EDS? (i sadly no longer have direct access)
We have a nail that I collected (via tyre) from my trip in Japan.... And we'd love an analysis.

The nerd in us needs to know, it does not look like it's mass produced.

It's attached to the wall behind the tv.....

For non-destructive, micro-XRF would be right size area, but surface oxide would make quantifying the oxygen content of the iron teicky. Could grind a bit of surface oxide away..

But if doing that, local metallographic polish and put into SEM would show microstructure and inclusions that could be good indicators. (EDS would not be great for quant oxygen/carbon at that level, but could indicate if O is relatively high). To put in EPMA for O and C good quant = cut and polish but more destructive.

Any burners with uni kids that could get into microscopy unit at night? :p

Some decent info here on structure and composition from different eras:

There's probably a nail museum somewhere :)

Best side loading bottle cages?
Strongest? Ease of use?
Don’t want bottle ejection every bunny hop.
I've had two types.

The one on my Norco was just a Giant side loading cage and it's been great. I have only lost the bottle in a crash.
The other/s are the Specialized ones that I have on my Levo SL and my Stumpy. Both of these have been great too. The one on the Stumpy has the SWAT multitool on the bottom of it.

I hate cages that can't hold a bottle properly and I have dozens of different bottles, and they all hold just fine. Every XC and Gravel race I have ever done, I see dozens of bottles on all the rough descents. Roadies just don't seem to put decent cages on their bikes.

Looking to buy some spokes as I seem to be having an issue with them snapping at the J bend on the rear only, just wondering if anyone has brought from Velocity? Looking at getting these and getting my mate to replace them all for me.

I usually buy mine from Dirtworks these days. The PSR 2.2/2.0/1.8/2.0 silver spokes are rather well priced.

Velocity are OK, but not the best.

The Pillars that Labcanary suggests are better for sure.

Breaking at the bend is typical of insufficient tension moreso than a fundamental flaw in the spokes. Get the wheel looked at properly before respoking with a heavier gauge (heavier spokes are also a pain in the arse to lace into hubs drilled for 14g/2mm).

Back tyre keeps deflating overnight. Fresh sealant, no sidewall seepage, valve nut tightened, rotor bolts tightened. No discernable bubbles when held underwater. What can I do that doesn't involve buying a new bike or @pink poodle's Saint cranks?
