The Vintage Mountain Bike Thread.

This popped up on this forum a few years back and the person who posted seems to have stopped using the forum since as i have reached out a few times, I was wondering if anyone knows who owns this Trek as I would like to buy it and bring it back it back to its former glory.

This is awesome, and quite cheap. Not quite vintage yet, but near enough.
Heh, the algorithim offered me this first thing this morning too. Pity there's bugger all detail (straight 1.5 steerer?) but for the price I'd be tempted to risk it..

I don't need another bike from the 00's though, I've already got one collecting spider webs.

Mate I owe you one, I didn't mention it before but the person you tagged who that other Trek belonged too turned out to be a complete idiot but following the recent hot tip from you I managed to finally bag one!

Heres the story

FINALLY
After years of kicking myself for selling mine back in 2013… I’ve finally been reunited with one of my all-time favorite bikes: the Trek Pro Issue DH.
I’ve always had a soft spot (okay, obsession) with this bike—but I never felt quite right putting up a “WTB” post. It always seemed like the timing or money wouldn’t line up. And of course, when I finally spotted one… both of those things were true.
😅

But hey—what are credit cards for, right?
It all started when I revisited an old Aussie forum that either works, crashes, or looks like it's being run by a dodgy Nigerian prince depending on the day. And somehow, it led me to a UK forum post titled: “What is this and what’s it worth?”
I messaged the seller straight away, poured my heart out about how much I regretted selling mine, made him an offer—and he came back with a counter. After converting it into Aussie dollars, it was well over $3K. But this was my second chance, and I wasn’t missing it. The bike is super clean and exactly how I would of built it myself minus the seat and seatpost!
Only catch? The bike was located 15,100km away—on the east coast of the U.S.
😬

Enter the legend all round nice guy
Todd Faust
— who just so happened to live around 60 miles from the seller. With a bit of planning and a handshake deal, Todd met the seller halfway, exchanged payment, and the bike is now on its way to me.
So here it is: a second shot at one of the most unique (yes, I said unique—not ugly
😆
) bikes ever made.
Couldn’t be happier. Can’t wait to build it up and get it dirty again.

After the maiden voyage a month back, I realised the original* bars were too narrow and way too low. So Saturday morning I put these spare 60mm rise bars on.

*the bars I put on back in 2003 that were maybe 680mm wide, the ORIGINAL ones were probably lucky to be 600mm wide .

Oh, and I butched one diety knuckleduster grip for the grip shift side, but of course because I cut the "bar-end" side off I needed to make up an end cap. Which I made out of a soare headstem topcap. Looks a bit janky, going to source some silicon grips when I get a chance.
