Hi all,

I'm 6'6 and 85kg, currently deciding between a runout 2014 Anthem 27.5 1 and the 29 advanced, XLs, would there be any geometry difference in size given the difference in wheel size?
Would prefer the 27.5. Have been riding an XTC 2 29er for a few years, time to upgrade, has served me well.

Thanks for the help.
Are you able top keep the XTC and just buy the dual suspension bike? If so, I'd grab the cheaper of the two dualies and have a great bike in each style.
If I had to pick between the 650 and the 29er, it'd be the 650 all day long.

i'd just add that Giant bikes are not overly long in the top tube. An XL ETT length is close to 25 inches. At your height of 6.6 - 26 inches would be more effective. Im 6.4 and really struggle on anything less than 25.75. Longer top tube for me means I can run an inline post and shorter stem- big plus. Specialised are much longer

Hello all. New member on the site who has recently started cycling again after dusting off my old GT Avalanche. I'm a fair bit lighter than I was 15 years ago when I bought the bike (79kg instead of 95kg) but no shorter at 198cm. I thought it was appropriate that my first post be here!

Looking forward to learning a bit about how much things have changed since I rolled out of the showroom on my shiny new, now retro 1999 GT. I know the hills have only become steeper.

Not sure where the best place to post good deals spotted would be, but I found one today which is relevant to this readers in this thread.

My ancient Netti touring shoes no longer fit me - strange how feet keep growing! Earlier in the week I was sniffing around to see what's available in BIG sizes and found that Avanti Bikes Plus in Preston have some Giro Privateers in 46, 47 and 48 ($49.95) and Giro Codes in 45, 46 and 48 (79.95). I went in to look, expecting to leave with a set of Privateers but the Codes are even more rigid so it seemed mad not to jump on some 48s.

Buy two pairs at that price - that's way below wholesale. Hate that there are hardly any decent size 50 available anywhere.

I thought about it but then again the Nettis lasted 20 years!

I'll give it some thought out on the bike this morning. It's about 6° outside so need something to keep my mind occupied.

setup

been trying to get my position sorted with much experimentation.

Im 6.4 and heavy- run a 90mm x 6 degree stem, 5 mm set back post, 760mm bars on a 25.75 inch ETT. I understand that 760mm bars would feel better on a 50mm stem but I just dont fit.

Do other tall rides simply have to defy the norm to fit- everything is a compromise it seems.

Have you tried a wider bar? If you consider the bar and your arms to make a triangle, widening the bar might allow you to 'stretch' sideways rather than forwards...I'm running 750mm bars at 4 inches shorter than yourself and your lanky torso.

Wider bars will make you less upright when seated and therefore make the cockpit feel longer. However, I wouldn’t go any wider with a 90mm stem. I’m trialling some 800s at the moment and love the leverage / feel. If I decide to get some carbon ones (have some cheap ones for working out if I like them) you can have a crack with them, 9x5 sweep with 20mm rise (the same as ENVE DHs and Havoc 800s).

Do you know the stack height of your bigtop? I.e. are you trying to solve the “too much out the front of the frame” feeling with more length when the issue could be handlebar height? Just throwing ideas out there as your frame and setup sound big enough, unless you want to be stretched out like a roadie.

185cm & 115-120kg ... *makes himself at home*

I'd like to say I feel like I would fit in here.. but nah.. all you fat bastards are hogging up the space, no chance of fitting comfortably in beside you lot ;)

BigJD, you must be an orangutan!

I'm 197cm on a 25.6" ETT frame. 760mm bars, 50mm stem and 0 offset seatpost (saddle is right back though) and I feel good on that. I'm fairly certain I don't have T-Rex arms so yours must be looooong.
