hey guys, name sais it all. i want to learn stuff like, whips , ways to jump higher as its harder with all this suspension i got :p and any other tips on stuff like rock gardens and all

What kind of dually did you get?
I learnt to whip, or as well as I can whip, by doing a stoppie, then twisting my feet, pulling the bike that direction. I can pull a bit over 90 degrees now, which isn't too much but plenty for a whip. Eventually move up onto smaller jumps you can try this on, small enough that landing with the rear sideways really wont matter, but big enough that you'll have time in the air to pull the whip off. Just go from there, thats how I learnt, but I know there are specific threads on how to whip somewhere on here. Practise twisting your feet both ways, I can only whip to my right, can't do it to my left at all.

Jumping higher I find just preload heaps into the jump and let the suspension boost you up off the lip, but also keep your weight a bit rearwards as to launch the front wheel up, but make sure you correct the weight placement in the air so you land both wheels simultaneously, or close to it.

Rock gardens are simple enough once you've got the hang of them, I like to keep a fair bit of my weight towards teh rear to help the front wheel make it's way over the rocks, and make sure you have plenty of control over your rear brake. Probably not advised but I like to lock up my rear wheel over some sections as to make it slide when I need to change the direction of the wheel. I ride an Ironhorse Sunday, and the low BB can make rock gardens a bit of a bitch at times if you fuck it up, so make sure you've checked it out first, when you're off the bike, and find a line that looks rideable. Sometimes you'll find going faster can help to, helps the wheels no get snagged inbetween rocks, which can have interesting results.

Hey mate I've just started too and I would say the best tip I have learnt so far is don't push too hard. Just relax and try to put together smooth runs. As soon as you start pushing things like rock gardens you begin to miss lines and loose alot of time.

tips

mate the faster you go though a rock garden the smoother the bike goes across the top of the rocks, and only used your back brakes if your on a real steep section otherwise no brakes at all.push your weight alittle to the rear of the bike but still try to keep your balance centred with the bike, you will have a lot more controll over your bike and stay relax.

There's no get great quickly tricks.. but things like trying to hold momentum through tough sections and looking ahead of where you're at are some of the best tips I've been given. The straight line is almost always the quickest.

As for jumping higher, if the jump permits it, stand into the face of the jump; ie. be more crouched as you're coming up to it, and then stand up as you hit the face of the ramp, this will send you higher if you time it right, similar to how tucking down on the bike will make you stay lower.

Whipping is a motion that's easiest learnt by trying small movements yourself - try turning your bars then bringing them back over a jump that you're very confident on. Then try turning your hips and using your feet to push the bike sideways underneath you, then pull it back as close to straight as you can before landing. Then you're doing a whip. Push it further and further as you get more comfortable.

Hey mate,
I also new to the tricks thing.
The jumps Im doing arent all to big either.
At the moment, i just turn the bars 90 degrees (or close to) for a bit of style.
Just practice when doing wheelies.
I know for no-footers and cans, my mates practice just on the flat, going slow.
If you get a chance, have a look at the latest AMB and check out the How to dvd.
Pretty much all weight balancing such as wheelies, manuals, drops, jumps, pumps and heaps more, are to do with your hips.
Using this technique over the last week, has helped dramatically.

Good luck!

Check out 'How to Volume 2' from AMB. I found it really helpful and ive learnt heaps of new tricks to get down the trail with style and speed

Let go of brakes

Sack up

Whips are easy, well getting it out there is for pulling it back in try pull up on the opposite side side of the bars as your whipping out

with whips just twist your hips and legs and over time it will feel alot smoother and more comfortable, with rock gardens just go as fast as you can, lean back, no brakes and stay loose.
