NSW Trail Maintenance - Royal National Park

Hey guys, I went for a lap the other day and the new work looks great, well done! Good to some of the mud holes and eroded bits fixed up. Hopefully I'll be able to come help some time (problem is my lack of weekends off work:()

yeah its looking good, looks like you fixed up the most troublesome spots. Hope fully it was you guys that cut out that tree across the track? I also will have to take sometime out to come to the next one, please post when it is on. Hard with a young family.

Next trackday - a nice berm on the 90deg corning coming down from the train line to the creek, and a berm on the off camber corner as you go over the built up log an into the switch backs just before the creek. Nice!!

Next Trail Maintenance

...come to the next one, please post when it is on

My understanding is that it will be the third Saturday of the month. That makes the next maintenance day 19 September

This works out well (for me at least), as it's the weekend after the Angry Doctor, when I probably won't want to even look at my bike...

Next Track Day: 19 September - Lock it in!

We will be focusing on those steps near the creek....

...and pushing for more info on the new piece of trail that they are opening up for us down to Audley!

See you at the office on Farnell Ave around 9.

Spread the word people.

Here is Grant's email:

G’day all,

The overwhelming favourite for our next track work day is for the 19th. I’ll see what materials are available for fixing up the steps from the creek as I think this will be our main focus for the day. I’ll do a bit of research into possible methods for dealing with the problem but everyone is free to provide some input.

There is a ‘Friends of Royal National Park’ meeting day on the 12th to which different volunteer groups who use the park are invited to participate. Basically the day will look at current issues and the future of volunteer workers in the park. I’ve attached the agenda for the day, note point 8 on the list. If anyone is interested please tell me asap.

Regards,

Grant Millar

Just spoken to grant and its a 9am start till around 12.30ish just like last time. Spread the word and see you all then

Trail Solutions on the way.

As some of you already know - Ground Effect (http://www.groundeffect.co.nz/index.htm) have agreed to sponsor us with a copy of the IMBA bible - "Trail Solutions". I've just heard that the book is in the mail - so it should be here in time for the next maintenance day!

I'm hopeful it will give us some more ideas for fixing up the eroded wooden steps section.

Did anyone else read the rock armouring article on imba website that griff0 pointed to? There are a few other interesting articles that talk about trail flow and obstacles among other things. Certainly worth a read if you get a chance.

Another sucessful day today and I think a few more people than last time. I think given the difficult location of the parts of the track we worked on (a long way from any fire trail) we got a lot acheived.

sorry i wasn't there for today, had to go away for a few days and not back until this evening. Can't wait to see (and ride) your new work. Will def be there next time...

Great morning was had improving a length of sniggle :D:cool:

about 15 of us plus two of the Rangers worked through the morning improving some great tracks...:)

well done to all, Karyn and myself were glad to go and help maintain the tracks we are often riding...

they plan to do this on a regular basis...so lets get there and support it...

Maintenance Saturday, Ridden Sunday - Tops!

It was great to see such a strong turn out with genuine enthusiasm - I think a lot was achieved in a relatively short period of time. It was also encouraging to have a couple of riders stop and ask for information about assisting in future.

I was lucky enough to get out and ride the reworked trail this morning, and I think it's definitely an improvement in both directions. Riding up is much better through the section that the wooden risers were removed from, and basically unaffected through the top section.

Coming down - the new "S" bend works well to slow speed into the next technical section, and the small berm and lack of risers in the bottom section again is great improvement.

I must say it's very satisfying to have been involved in it and would encourage anyone who is able to, to lend a hand, either by turning up - or by assisting with the organisational side of things.

Next working day will likely be Saturday 17 October (3rd Saturday of the month) - I think we'll probably be improving sight-lines on the single track heading towards Heathcote - though that's still up for discussion. If anyone has any thoughts on what could best use our attention please advise.

Next Maintenance day Saturday 17th Oct

Quote from email from Grant Miller from NPWS regarding trail maintenance this Saturday the 17th Oct

Hi all,

Just a confirmation of the location for Saturday 17th track works day.

Meet on the eastern side of Engadine train station, you can park at the station and walk across the footbridge or ride the trails to there if coming on bike.

No need to print the form, just turn up. If you want to be added to the email list, email royal.volunteers@environment.nsw.gov.au and ask to be added to the Royal National Park trail maintenance group list. It is looked after by Grant Miller (Ranger).

Lock in 21st November as the next date. (third Saturday of the month)

Hey,

I've ridden the Royal National Park a few times as it's one of my local trails and I'm keen to come lend a hand.

I'll send an e-mail to join the group.

Look forward to lending a hand on the 21st perhaps.

Do I need to bring any tools etc? or is most gear available on the day ?

- Also can we post photos of the track work here so people know what to expect ?

If anyone is interested in registering for the mail list or just needs information from the NPWS, the following are the contact details.

Email: royal.volunteers@environment.nsw.gov.au
