Trump..... (The Sophistry Thread)

I'm going to do an @ozzybmx for the next four years - total disconnect from everything political. It's just too depressing when the population of arguably the most important and influencial country in the world want an autocracy loving, thick as mince felon in control.

He’s not thick though. And the people behind this are very much not thick. Seriously, watch more of Bannon interviews, especially a really long one with PBS a bunch of years ago. If the democrats had been even half as strategic and insightful we’d be in a very different place.

I heard somewhere too that this is the first republican president in 8 that has won the popular vote too.

America will be a very different country in 4 years time. So will Ukraine, Palestine, Taiwan, and South Korea.

I didn't make a comment on anyone but Trump. He's certainly a survivor but so are rats and cockroaches.

Excellent :)

Well, America has now made their bed, and they now have to sleep in it.

I wonder if the fallout will be like the UK and Brexit.

Still, there are a lot of people in the UK that can't see that the issues and extra cost that is now incurred is because of Brexit.

If they introduce their tariff strategy and crash the economy, yes. Like the UK they can be another population to vote in economic sanctions on themselves. Issue is this time their economy is so big it's going to fuck the rest of the world up with it. There's no buoyant Chinese market to buy all our resources anymore ala GFC.

One interesting thing re the US election is Trump won 74.2m votes in 2020; Biden won 81.2m

Trump currently has 72m votes. I very, very much doubt he'll top 74m again, there just aren't the votes left. Harris currently has 67.2, will probably bolster that by another 1m or so with leftover California count etc.

So an uneducated guess would be that Trump won this because Democrat turn out was just well below what it needed to be. Again.

They really need to make voting mandatory, so we can see what everyone really thinks
There were apparently other things being voted on at state level, there was a proposal to do preferential voting, it was voted down. I'd wager compulsory voting has even less chance of getting support.

The weird thing is the strongest economy in the world was seen by a majority of its people as terrible and the the Dems were to blame. The reality that trickle down economics doesn't work hasn't dawned on them, nor that Trumps plans will make it worse for everyone except the wealthy.

Yeah, compulsory voting will never get in because of "freedoms".
