Trump..... (The Sophistry Thread)

does American have a different version of "billion" to everyone else?

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. will get its first oil refinery in 50 years, funded by investments from Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries.
“THIS IS A HISTORIC $300 BILLION DOLLAR DEAL — THE BIGGEST IN U.S. HISTORY,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

$300 billion sounds like lot.... and is being financed by an Indian company with a market cap of only $200 billion

Under the newly signed agreement:
  • 1.2 billion barrels of U.S. light shale oil will be purchased and processed — a value of $125 billion
  • AFR will produce 50 billion gallons of refined products — a value of $175 billion
  • The U.S. trade imbalance will improve by $300 billion
ahh, so the deal is not $300 billion... but the refinery will make $175 billion worth of product (after buying $125 billion raws = $50bil value add)

America First Refining received a 9-figure investment from a global supermajor at a 10-figure valuation.

hmm,
$300bil = $300,000,000,000
9-figures=$123,456,789...... so hundreds of million, not hundreds of billion? of America First Indian investment 🫢

or maybe i just can't freedom-math?

US oil is unbelievably shit quality. Good luck refining that crap!

I don't think that is completely accurate:

Oil quality differences. Crude oil comes in different grades, generally categorized by density (light vs. heavy) and sulfur content (sweet vs. sour). The US primarily produces light, sweet crude, ideal for gasoline. But many US refineries, especially those along the Gulf Coast, are geared up to process sour, heavy crude – the kind produced in countries like Canada and Venezuela. Heavy crude oil is cheaper, and its chemical composition allows it to be used in a greater variety of products, such as diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemicals.

Pushing deep into my memory and i am pretty sure they switch from millions to billions a zero or two before everyone else. Something about 1000 million...high school maths recollections, so it could be a Mandela memory.
The Yanks always had it as 1 billion = 1000 million
We were taught early on that 1 billion = one million millions, which was the old British version, but that was already on the way and i'm assuming we were only taught it because some of our reference books were really old

Nek minnit...

"Because of the fact that we have had such Military Success, we no longer 'need,' or desire, the NATO Countries’ assistance — WE NEVER DID! Likewise, Japan, Australia, or South Korea.

"In fact, speaking as President of the United States of America, by far the Most Powerful Country Anywhere in the World, WE DO NOT NEED THE HELP OF ANYONE!"

It's the 'your ugly anyway' retort. What a fuckwit.

Twitter is rife with mental gymnasts and sychophants (bots?) licking Trump's ring. What a shit place that's turned into now.

I even managed to track down the news presenter from the six o'clock news in the UK when my sister was presented with a Faberge egg about 30 years ago!

Sadly I binned my Twitter account so all those memories and conversations are lost now..
