Trump..... (The Sophistry Thread)

Trump wants to run against Bernie....good....he underestimates his own unpopularity, and Bernies appeal to youth, minorities and independents.
The youth don't vote and even if they did it's nowhere near enough numbers to make a difference. 18-35 is a small demographic when large numbers of people are living into their 90's.
The minorities 'can't' vote or at least a healthy proportion can't thanks to decades of voter suppression. The ones who can are also split - Latinos favour Sanders but African-Americans are all for Biden -it's the reason why he easily carried South Carolina.

Independents are a mixed bag but generally if someone is sitting on the fence they tend not to go from one extreme to another if there is a slightly more reasonable alternative. In American eyes Sanders is an extremist candidate. They've been force-fed the idea that socialism is somehow Stalinism for decades and up until the COVID-related stock market wobbles, Trump's been able to coast on the fact that whilst he may not be liked personally by voters they do like that their 401ks have been growing.

Incidentally, the 'Bernie Bots' are turning into a major issue amongst Democrat voters. Whilst he may not have personally courted Russian involvement, he's stuck with it and it's only further aiding Trump's chances.

Neither of those could convey their message of inspire an ounce of passion in people.
Shorten certainly couldn't but somehow -despite displaying the personality of a humourless geography teacher, Jezza managed to inspire a whole legion of over-zealous Corbynites. Just nowhere near enough to make a dent in a national election. Sanders has the same problem. He inspires great passion among his fans but leaves the rest of the world either ambivalent at best, hostile and mistrusting at worst.

If he were a musical act he'd be the Insane Clown Posse.
