Van or Ute

Cheers guys.
The reason I asked on here is because it's more of a real world view.
Online reviews usually only advertise the negatives.

Plus Burners are always pretty honest now.......... if it's not about bike weights.

Mitsubishi delica V6 or diesel .. 4x4 and a van ..
Thats what sprang to my mind when I read the OPs question. Pretty much a pajero underneath so parts are available and if you youtube it you can see some crazy russians doing things you wont believe offroad.

Troopies are very specialised... Awesome off road, and horrible everywhere else. Perfect tool for the Simpson Desert, horrible tractor on the road with very scary safety credentials.

Spent lots of time in 70 series cab chassis when I was doing firefighting - awesome to follow a bulldozer through a gully with! Scary as hell to punt along highways at speed...

Hardly kosher when Camo and chops aren't here to defend themselves......allegedly:spy:
You miss them so much don't you. Keep bringing them up.

I'll admit I miss camo contributions to the forum. The banter between the two of you was always fun but perhaps he took it too far with the shelving comment but people have been let off more lightly for worse, yourself included.

You just can't say that to a mod. Ps, he emailed me yesterday. By the content, he's either lurking or new account. Hi nigs

Might as well buy a 40 foot shipping container. Roomy, secure and quicker than a troopy.:pop2::pop2:
So capable they are, who wants to go fast on four wheels unless on track days with a real race car.

Go fast or go anywhere, for me its an easy choice given I'm on an offroad mountain bike forum!

f150 velociraptor... job done. No need for anything else.. fits two Moto's, can do shuttles, awesome off-road and fast. Heck, it even has fox racing shocks all round with big beefed up aluminium components.

only negatives, cost & fuel.

I'd love a new amarok with one of those sweet dakine tail pads hanging over the tray to show I'm an awesome MTB type.... But it's just not practical. I have a Vw t5.2 transporter and I can fit all my work gear in there plus carry my bike all the time. The. For bigger ride days at ourimbah roughly 7-8 mates & bikes for shuttle runs. I'd love a 4 motion though and a lift kit.

Fark me sideways! 8 or 9 people plus bikes in the one van.......... does the t stand for tardis?

Pics or it didn't happen.

I'm using a 105 series landcruiser

Does all of what all those shitboxes you've mentioned can, just better.

Cheaper option would be a low km 80 series.

BTW low kms for a landcruiser is a different concept to the vehicles mentioned before (cept the kidney killer)

I've done five years twice in two Toyota utes, King and dual cabs, only 2wds but. Had a couple of tuff Discoveries, a few VW vans and an I-Load. Utes are rad fro ease of shuttles, especially wih good rack. Vans are just so easy to live with(get a passanger side window), both the VW and the I-Load can drive ten percent above speed limit safely and effortlessly. Beyond that, same as the ute you're tempting fate for sure, but safer than a 4x4 ute for sure.
Van + Trailer should do anything a ute can. I'd not cope with a Delicia after having the power of the i_Load or T5 2.5ltr diesels. and the fuel consumption is awesome also. My GT Forrester used to drink what seemed like twice as much.
In short, you won't go wrong with either, but living with a van is the easiest car you'll ever live with. Picture it the mute woman of the car world. Can sleep with it too. A 4wd is the equivalent of a girlfriend that can ride. Both have their perks for sure. I do miss going anywhere in the 4WD, but it was rare realistically and I found 4WDing itself pretty boring after a bit, always worrying about wrecking shit or some other drama.
