Yikes...the prospect of riding 22mm tubs on a carbon wheel and frame combination that weighs so little would fill me with dread given the road conditions around here. Let alone with the prospect of parting with $16K for the privilege.

It's not for riding. It's for driving around on your roof racks on your Audi.

15k for a Trek, no thanks! I would sooner drop my cash on a DeRosa, or Cipollini RB1000.

Wow, for a 56cm frame size, complete bike, that is outrageously light!

Some of these road bikes are smashing the UCI's 6.8KG bike weight restrictions now.

I wonder if these feather weight frames give up much in the form of rigidity and/or strength?

I really think it's a bike you would buy as a statement.
"Look what I can afford".
I wish I could make such a statement. :(

be interesting to see what a build of similar weight would cost...

i'd happily own it however. at the end of a day it's an ultra light bike, be it a trek or fancy pants italian branded.

Put it this way:

People will happily pay $400k+ for a Ferrari.

Would anyone pay $400k for a Dodge or Chevy? No I don't see it.

please. if you could buy a $400k holden then they would all be owned by FIFO workers in WA.

there's a bit more to it than just the badge though. that's like comparing any old trek to any pinarello or similar.
people will buy a lowly nissan gtr over a porsche or similar as it gives it a pants-ing... much like the 4.6kg trek would probably out climb a similar priced italian. or then there are backyard cars like Gumpert that get buyers too..

and for that price why go all 2012/13 and black on black.. Surely for a 15k Trek I would expect neons on the down tube and a complimentary wristy at the coffee shop. I will stick to my crash and burn Boardman. No love gained no love lost when binned.

Ok fair enough I'm hearing ya - I certainly would not buy a GTR, and I won't buy this bike either.

Good bike though! A great engineering exercise from Trek. Kudos.

Would really suit a porsche driver, having it mounted on some super thin $5,000 roof racks to add to the wank factor.

But then again, I am probably just saying that because I can't afford any of it - not even the roof racks :eek:hwell:

Not really accurate though is it?

I mean a Ferrari you're getting a much much better grade product.

What makes this trek inferior to the other higher end names brands besides the badge?
Who cares if its got a trek badge if the product is comparable to the others.

As for the GTR Why wouldnt you buy one? If we are talkin the GTR 35 they are great value, the performance they put on over cars higher priced is huge. You could spend more on it and get a alpha 12 kit on it. it will set you back about 300K but it will accelerate 0-160mph over 2 seconds faster than a veyron. Its a car you can build for a fraction of the price but will destoy most super cares that cost millions.

0 -260km/h in about 6 seconds.
