I am looking foreward to many people responding. As there is a dwelp framework to familiarise myself with there will be limited numbers to start with. So stoked on all the people who are volunteering thier time to get our tracks sorted this sat. Dewlp stipulates the use of PPE. 20 hard hats, high vis vests and specs will be provided. As there will be more than 20 of us attending it would be great to bring yr own if you have it. Also wearing some work boots and gloves is a good idea. If you can bring brushcutters, sheers, rakehoes, mattocks and shovels it would be much appreciated. Meeting at old warburton Rd and crusher track, Wesburn. 930. Good on you champions.

Most of the updates on trails in Warby will be posted on the YRMTB FaceBook page, but I'll try to post here also. Anyone can read the info on the FB page, so you don't need to join up if you don't want.

Hope to see you all there!!
Doug.

Good to see it all happening! According to the FB page, Mat said there are more build days coming up on the 4th/5th of June and the 11th/12th of June.

I'm hoping to get down for at least one of the days each weekend!

That super steep descent just before the road crossing was always on my to-do list :/
It's all blocked off now, unfortunately!
I bet it's one of those things that looks terrifying, but is actually super simple, haha.

I've watched someone crash down it, and even that didn't really look too bad. They just got up and dusted themselves off.

It was really easy, but yeah took some courage to hit the first time.. it's over before you have time to worry about it. Well, was...

Just got this email:

To whom it may concern,

We enclose (see attached) our proposal for the Warburton Mountain Bike Masterplan and trail alignments.

Project Vision and Aspiration:

The Council in partnership with Parks Victoria, DELWP, Melbourne Water and the local community and interest groups are seeking to develop a world class mountain bike destination that will position Warburton as an internationally significant mountain bike destination. The objective is to create spectacular riding experiences that provide a competitive advantage over existing mountain bike destinations and leverages off Warburton’s beautiful township.

Proposed Trail Maps & Alignments:

Over the past 6 months we have worked closely with Parks Victoria and DELWP to ensure our trails avoid areas of key sensitivity or natural habitat and now like present these trails to the local community and recreation groups for project support and comment.

Public Consultation & Community Engagement:

The period for public consultation is for 28 days starting 18th November and finishes 16th December 2016. During this time we will be having a drop in session in Warburton so you can discuss the project and ask any questions.
The details for this session are:

The Mechanics Hall, Warburton. Thursday 24th November 2016, starting from 5pm till 7pm.

What Next:

The outcome of the stakeholder engagement will be reviewed prior to the team of trail builders and environmental consultants starting to walk the trail alignments to avoid key areas of sensitivity (such as environmental and heritage) and determine the final alignments for the project masterplan.

Support the project and let us know what you think:

The council will have an online portal, please provide your support and to leave comments. This will start from 24th November http://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/Home , under ‘have your say’.

If there are any further questions, please email myself at richard.morrell@cox.com.au

Kind regards

Richard Morrell

********* February Trail Maintenance Day *********

Hi all.

The next trail maintenance day is on the first weekend in Feb.

Face Book Info: https://www.facebook.com/events/206970626442505/

I know I've said it before, but this weekend should see the last weekend of constructing Hey Hey My My, before it is opened.

Day 1. (Saturday 2nd Feb)
Time: 9:30am
Place: Cnr Crusher Track and Old Warburton Road, Wesburn.
Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/SZpNDhJ2bf92

With only one section of trail to finish, the light is getting brighter!
We've got to bentch out the final section of the desent and that's about it.

With a good showing, this trail will be finished and we can work on getting it officially opened!

------------------------------------------------------------------

Day 2 (Sunday 3rd Feb)
Time:9:30am
Place: Cnr Crusher Track and Old Warburton Road, Wesburn.
Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/SZpNDhJ2bf92

With any luck Hey Hey My My will be finished and we can work on the other 2 trails. Show up here and we'll go from there.

Non-YRMTB members are more than welcome!!

You don't have to be out for the whole day, even if you can spare a few hours, that's a great help!!

Bring: Shovels, nail rakes, mattocks, picks, chain saw (with qualifications), Personal Protection Equipment, Rake Hoes, FOOD and WATER. YRMTB will supply PPE if you don't have any.

These trails are the most unique trails around and will satisfy any mountain bikers apatite for adrenaline!

The last maintenance day turnout was amazing and we'll need those similar numbers to get this trail ticked off by DELWP so everyone can have a Summer of awesome LEGAL mountain biking here in Warburton!!

Really hope to see you all there!!

I was up at Warburton recently and was very disappointed to see that Top Track has fallen into a state of disrepair since all of the hard work a lot of us put in late last year. We were specifically told that we were putting in the 'finishing touches' and that it would be officially opened soon. The last day I put in up there saw it at a stage where it was definitely rideable. As there have been no wheels down it, all of that raking we did has gone to waste with leaves/deadfall all over the track and the scrub cutting of the edges is growing back.

Someone has been doing some very bizarre work up there, building a jump that is much bigger than any normal human could ride and a ridiculous alteration to the trail near the bottom that turns sharply up the hill. I don't get it. The track was finished, just waiting for sign-off and now someone is building a combination of really hard stuff (the jump) and really lame stuff (the hill climb). Frug, do you know what the hell is going on up there? Can we just stop messing with the track and get the damn thing open? I'd hate to think that I've wasted 3 days of my life on a track that isn't actually going ahead.

Warpij seems to be good to go, apart from a new jump at the end that is a bit soft and where it connects with Top Track at the bottom, which is a disaster...

Sounds like we need more frequent build days out there to get things done.

They're too few and far between!

We need a clear plan to get things moving. I have no idea why instead of opening the trails, things have stalled and new things that weren't previously discussed are being built. With all of the work we all put in, both trails should have been open weeks ago.

Hi guys.

I agree, it is frustrating. Many many many volunteer hours have been put in to all 3 trails up there. Things move VERY slow out here. Please remember that YRMTB are a volunteer group and we all wish we could put more hours in. The simple matter of the fact is that these trails are a much bigger job than YRMTB had expected and YRMTB lacks the man power to organise maintenance days every month. I have a busy business that is getting smashed every weekend and a young family to look after. Matt V has several jobs going and having only 5-6 people on average turning up to maintenance days just does not cut it to get things finished when suggested.

Here's the latest though:

Hey Hey My My.
The final documentation has been submitted to DELWP outlining the IMBA walk through appraisal. This was submitted over a week ago. This doc is to be passed onto the DELWP "suits" to read over and get their big "ticking" pen out and sign off on it. So we are waiting to hear back from them.

Pinhead and Warpij.
An IMBA walk through has been completed and the subsequent trail signage and feature suggestions proposal is to be written up and submitted to DELWP. This doc will contains suggestions for trail signage and alterations to any features to reflect IMBA standards.

Sorry I can't shed anymore light on what's going on. My suggestion could be to get a group of guys together and contact Matt V to suggest a maintenance day.

Thanks for the update. I'm a bit confused about Hey Hey, I thought it got signed off months ago and the signage is all done. I know people are riding it regularly, like a legal trail.

As far as Pinhead is concerned, is there any way to find out why new things are being added outside of official trail maintenance days? This is what's holding things up. I'm sure it didn't need some ridiculous re-routing uphill section to meet IMBA standards. That's a just a whole lot of work that further delays finishing the trail and sucks to ride. And that's not to mention the half completed new jump that is about ten times as big as anything else on the track...

I appreciate that people are busy etc, but the fact is that we had the tracks finished and all they needed was sign-off and signage. If it's a case of making some phone calls and showing the relevant officials the tracks so they can sign off on them, I'm sure there's plenty of us who could manage that.

The official sign off has not yet been approved. The installation of the signage was part of the process to get it "sign-off ready". As a result of the signage installed, it is quite easy to find and ride the trail.

Agreed about Pinhead. Unauthorised construction on these trails can lead to all our hard work coming undone. Also agree about the ridiculous jumps being constructed, that I'm sure even Matt V wouldn't even jump. Very selfish of those "rouge" builders. Someone has also been putting lips on some of the jumps, hence changing the jumps completely.

Such a shame :eek:hwell: hopefully it gets up and running soon! Having never ridden there before, I have heard such great things about it! (According to my cousin it had some of the best downhill tracks in vic). I certainly cannot wait to ride them!
