Warburton trail updates

Finally got there, conditions were mint. I really liked it, including the climb (but I also quite like climbing unless it's that hateful fire road at Silvan). Agreed that a some kind of push up fireroad short cut would be cool if you wanted to save some time.
It’s an eebs paradise there
Lot of people out yesterday, and after a bit we started counting riders on non-ebikes. We got to four, not including ours. It's starting to feel like riding a meat powered bike makes you part of a secret, niche club, like being on a 29er before they got mainstream.

Rode silvan for the first time in a couple of months yesterday, after many a lap of warby over the last weeks.
Silvans descents seemed over before they started by comparison lol.

Got me thinking about the warby climb. 1hr for a 7 - 10min descent. You have to do three laps of Silvan to get the same amount and ends up being 20 min each climb anyway.

Ha, yeah. Was thinking about exactly the same thing while pootling up. I think I prefer the latter though, would rather shorter, steeper climbs but I get that's not everyone's idea of fun.

Regardless I think they did a good job with the climb, yes it's looong but it's not like Kinglake or Narbethong which have been the only places I've had intrusive thoughts about an ebike (and was too dumb to work out I should've been shuttling).

I was there yesterday , a nice sunny sunday , and the climb had lots of families on there working their way up very slowly , fantastic to get more people out riding but it was difficult for the more experienced riders wanting to do a few fast loops . The way i see it this will be an issue for a while.

But when the top area is open the more experienced riders will more likely be getting shuttled to the top area and spending most of their day playing around up there, before riding all the way back down into town using the down runs they are doing now as the access back.

The bottom area that is currently open was always designed for the more beginner types to go out and have a ride easily accessible from town.

So i think a bit of patience is probably required before we see the method to their plan

I had my first look out there last weekend as well.
At the moment, I have only ridden half of the trails as I was time crunched.
Would say my enthusiasm to get back is decent at the moment, to try the parts of trail I didn't get to, then after that, mehhhh.

Prior to E-bikes, the climbing at Silvan used to be a gatekeeper for entry, Warburton will be like that on steroids for most regular people (not on Eeeebs). As others have related, there were carcasses of 'family' rides all over the climb up from Wesburn and I'd hate to see them descending if the climb caused that much pain.

It's 35 mins from my door to the carpark at Wesburn. I hoped it would have me more enthusiastic than it does, considering the time and $$$ invested in the project so far. I'll watch on with interest to see how numbers go after the initial sugar hit

Given you don't mind a pedal, I thought you'd like the current trails. What have you ridden so far?

Looking at the plans for stage 2 it's going to be out of bounds for all but the fittest riders unless eebing or shuttling.

The other thing I forgot to mention , it looks like the bridge for riders going over old warby rd is underway ,

I enter riding from home where mt little joe track( the fire road that splits the down hill runs) meets old warby rd , and footings have been poured and there is building materials there

You are right @Chriso_29er, the pedal is comfortable for me.
Climbed up from Wesburn, Ripple Effect into Barefoot Wizard. Uptown Flow into Milling about, Bitta this over to Zinglefun and out.

I really appreciate the work that World Trail do and the work that has gone into this project but it's all a bit soulless to me.
As I get older, I find the connection with nature a bit more important than machine built trails. Maybe I'm riding for different reasons or appreciate different things to most?

I'm definitely not the target market, so it's a me problem, not specifically a Warby problem. A much better use of the trails, for beginners, would be for Uptown Flow to be the climb and Bitta This, Bitta that be a green/blue descent - That would have new people grinning and it’s easily doable. A 6-10km descent instead of 1km or 2km would really entice people back.

Agreed, machine cut flow trails are boring unless I'm on my hardtail. But I was out there with my partner who's still learning and she loves smooth flow so it was great being able to have a new place that she likes riding.

(having to skip the one black trail which looked like peak tacky goodness to stay with her hurt on a cellular level though)

It would be interesting to see how keen your partner is to go back, knowing the effort required to get up to the descents?

Again, the answer is eebs.

I’m with @Asininedrivel on the blandness of blu flow. But the best is yet to come. All these climbing trails will allow excellent access to the rogues that’ll start to pop up over the next couple of years. I think it’s going to be a fantastic network.

Went back last Sunday. Pushed up the summit track. God that was awful steep. Don't think I'll do it again. I like the descent enough to go back, but will probably just play around the "bottom half" of the descent (riddler, hop scotch, bottom of barefoot wizard). What's hop scotch like?

Any idea how the build is tracking for the Stage 1B opening in the first half of next year? Hopefully things will happen before winter!

Was on Facebook earlier and it looks like a couple people came to grief on the weekend, then I read some of the comments, mostly good but then you get the usual bullshit “who pays for this” yada yada yada 🙄

tell them they are welcome to pay upfront next time they have a stack, or crash their car and need a helicopter medevac. :)
Yes, it's pretty fkn stupid to whinge about tax-payer funded emergency health care.

I went past a guy that looked in bad shape sunday around that time on the riddler so im assuming that was him , there were already 10 or more people attending to him so there was no point me stopping

those trails do get a bit slick after some rain though and we had plenty on saturday
