Warburton trail updates

@kiwiinmelb never has something been more fitting!

@Tubbsy I'd never heard of Tumbarumba until you mentioned it, then when @Wake Jake talked so positively, I did what everyone does and headed to YouTube to see what the vibe is.

I'm now comfortably out from under my rock and keen to go check it out, looks like it really does have a bit of everything.
Thread is here:

Tumba Bloody Rumba

I was down the Riverina, knockin' 'round the towns a bit,
And occasionally resting with a schooner in me mitt,
And on one of these occasions, when the bar was pretty full
And the local blokes were arguin' assorted kind of bull,
I heard a conversation, most peculiar in its way.
It's only in Australia you would hear a joker say:

"Howya bloody been, ya drongo, haven't seen ya fer a week,
And yer mate was lookin' for ya when ya come in from the creek.
'E was lookin' up at Ryan's, and around at bloody Joe's,
And even at the Royal, where 'e bloody NEVER goes".

And the other bloke says "Seen 'im? Owed 'im half a bloody quid.
Forgot to give it back to him, but now I bloody did -
Could've used the thing me bloody self. Been off the bloody booze,
Up at Tumba-bloody-rumba shootin' kanga-bloody-roos."

Now the bar was pretty quiet, and everybody heard
The peculiar integration of this adjectival word,
But no-one there was laughing, and me - I wasn't game,
So I just sits back and lets them think I spoke the bloody same.

Then someone else was interested to know just what he got,
How many kanga-bloody-roos he went and bloody shot,
And the shooting bloke says "Things are crook -
the drought's too bloody tough.
I got forty-two by seven, and that's good e-bloody-nough."

And, as this polite rejoinder seemed to satisfy the mob,
Everyone stopped listening and got on with the job,
Which was drinkin' beer, and arguin', and talkin' of the heat,
Of boggin' in the bitumen in the middle of the street,
But as for me, I'm here to say the interesting piece of news
Was Tumba-bloody-rumba shootin' kanga bloody-roos.

The Yewies have two climb options.

One is shit. The other one is shitter.
I think Rockwell is a reasonable climbing trail. If you compare it to anywhere like Creswick or Harcourt, it stacks up. Purely in a climbing capacity...

I think the YYs has a situation where the road climb is just short enough to warrant people opting for it over Rockwell's.

If Rockwell's was shorter it would get more attention for sure.

Being the longest, easy track on the Stockyards side it makes the perfect ebike DH trail.

I often wished Rockwell was designated as a climb-only - but that it would be tweaked so it maintains its original trail & routing, but also gained some steeper shortcut climbs with some moderately techy bits on the shortcuts. Want the climb to be shorter? Work that cardio and practice your tech skills. Feeling chill/lazy, just roll up the traditional route. Would keep the trail accessible to beginner riders, but offer more challenge to those with a bit of experience too (and yes, it'd probably get worked over even harder by eMTBers who think they're climbing gods - but at least it'd allow them to slip past the meandering/leisurely riders rather than them "having to" (being corteous enough to...) pull over to let them past).

Is that still 2-way? I'm surprised someone hasn't been seriously hurt trying to climb that trail
I always thought the same of that cobble-stone rock garden under/next to the big tall boulders on Junction track. Techinically that's two way but with the pace modern bikes can drop into that if you found someone climbing it halfway up it'd get messy fast. (That whole middle/rocky section of Junction track is actually a pretty fun climb, I was just never really game to do it during the day for fear of getting flattened by a skilled descender that wouldn't be expecting poorly-skilled me climbing up).

use the old push up track !
The correct answer!!!

Rockwell - too much meandering for my liking. Same reason why i hate the climbs at Harcourt.
Fireroad - best of both options.
Push up track - the most direct and gets the job done quickly.

As far as the last time I rode it yeah. Lots of arguments over this as the XC brigade won't let anyone make this a one way descent. "but you should be a riding at a speed safe enough to yield for climbing traffic" !!

The same people that run you off the trail when they're descending on Rockwell? Seems about right... 😅

I like youies. enough tech and send to keep me entertained. Just hate having to cross town to get to it. Alas, it doesn't look like we gonna get much tech happening at warby. back to lyre lyre for me.

love Lyre Lyre. Great mix of tech up top with high speeds and flow at the bottom
