What are you listening to NOW?

I'm not sure Spotify warrants all the hate being directed at it. The benefits it delivers I think are being way underestimated. This is a platform that gives exposure to bands and artists that might otherwise never be heard by anyone. Think of it as the new radio, no one hates radio. God, even in the bad old days of payola people were paying to get their records played (well the record companies were).

I think it's a glass half empty argument. It comes down to smaller payments per hits v more hits than otherwise, and if that resulting sum is bigger than otherwise. So far I think it's the latter for many bands.

It is warranted. While they are notorious for staffing musicians (not my beef) and promoting morons like Rogan (lunacy during covid etc), my beef lies with their current involvement (massive investment and chairman) in production of AI drones to blow up children, hospitals, families, elderly, and so on in Gazam then where ever they want to blow up next.

In no fan of the way Spotify pays artists, but be careful buying to what’s above. Not sure any of the tech would be landing in Gaza , and countries like Ukraine need solutions that sit outside of Chinese supply chains.

Of course, it would be better if arseholes like Hamas, Netanyahu, Putin, Bush, CCP, Ayatollahs, etc wouldn’t go invading and bombing others. But, unfortunately arseholes gonna arsehole.

Ok to be honest I don't know if investing in military technology is good or bad, because ultimately you don't know until the finished product gets used and how it gets used. I think we have all benefited precisely because the US has the most advanced weapons technology. Arguably there are times when it has been used questionably but I think it's safe to say it's better in their hands than say Russia's or North Korea's, just for example. There would be many.

I was responding to the critique of the Spotify platform specifically and this is really about the guy that owns it. Maybe this should be split into a thread of its own.

Arseholes are going to arsehole, it tends to be their specially. But the eradication of a civilian population in the pursuit of undesirable perpetrators isn't the solution. The last week's commemoration of similar activities should serve as a reminder to us all.
