What are you listening to NOW?

Yeah, grunge for me was Nirvana, Screaming Trees, Dino Jr., Mudhoney, etc.

I reckon my most played album of that genre/era was probably Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream and Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral. I think I was a little more into the Manchester sound at that time, rather than the Seattle thing. Fucking Amazing time for music, though. The 90s were awesome all over.

Live wasn't the worst of it for me, that probably would have been Counting Crows, or Hootie and the Blowfish.
I used to hate Counting Crows, but my wife is into them and dragged me to a concert maybe 10 years ago. I'm still not into their songs, but their guitarist is fucking awesome.

Lol, I think I rewrote my post about 5 times. I need to control myself when I talk 90s music or I'll turn back into a gushing teenager again.

Mudhoney. Still one of my favourite bands. Saw them so many times it was ridiculous. My 18th birthday at the MCG hotel both Seminal Rats and mudhoney and us losers all on stage arm in arm drunk AF (and the rest) all singing Alice’s I’m eighteen. Was a night to remember. Then mudhoney blew the roof off the place.

And Screaming Trees and then Lanegan by default. So good.

Siamese Dream form Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails Downward spiral were two pretty amazing albums, as was Hole's live through this and Stone Temple Pilots Purple. There’s quite a few ‘wish we were around in the 90s’ type bands around atm and I’m a fan.
These guys have done the support on several gigs we’ve been to recently and have just released their debut album.

90s bands were pretty phenomenal.
My favs include:

Fugazi
Pavement
Unwound
mbv
Kyuss
Drive Like Jehu
Jawbox
Slint
Slowdive
Mark of Cain
Helmet
Mogwai (early)
Quicksand
The best thing is that almost everyone on that list has recently or is soon playing live again.
Oh what I would give to see Slint live

Yeah, it's like a mix between blues, banjo and traditional Asian sounds.

Apparently that's a traditional song they are playing. Sounds like blues to me.
I reckon it's been influenced by all those things you mention. Since listening to this I've fallen down a rabbit hole chasing after these sounds! There seems to be a whole genre in Japanese music where the shamisen is used in all kinds of modern pieces like electro house to things that sound like country. Just one example

I’ve only seen around 6 of those bands live. Anyone getting to Aus?

Slint would be awesome, but they havent played in over 10 years now?

For sure we’ll never see Fugazi, Jehu, Slint and probably Jawbox but all the others have been here recently. Good times when these old bands are getting back together and touring again

I have caught Helmet, Quicksand and Mark of Cain in last couple years - was hoping there was a big announcement I had missed :D

Slowdive, Ride and (technically) my bloody valentine are still making music.

Not quite 90s but I saw mclusky are kicking around again too.

I wish Fugazi would just say "yeah we broke up". This we haven't broken up so there's hope you'll see us again thing sucks.
Did you see them when they played at Melbourne Uni?
