What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Found something broken. I'm guessing just a rock strike on the carbon rim, it feels pretty solid still. Would you keep riding this?

Nice early spin with @Rorschach this morning at John Forrest NP. Just over 20km and 350m vert.

Shock spat it on a landing early on so most of the ride was with a disconcerting clank coming from rear and then with no damping as the ride went on.

Towards the end suddenly lost bite and power in the brakes (guessing some oil from the shock might have got flung around onto the rotors). Final descent, which is normally pretty cruisy, was a bit brown pants material.

Nice to get some k’s before the heat hits.

PS - anyone got a 190x50 shock lying around they don’t need and looking to move on?

I got a Monarch Plus rc3 and a Vanilla RC if you want to go full send.

Built another couple of wheels, one for a bloke I've done a few builds for over the past few years, the other a rebuild for my commuter bike to put a funky instant-engagement hub into a spare rim I had kicking around that looks like the front rim. ;)

Then took the back end of No.2 MTB apart to service the pivot bearings, 'cos they've been a bit creaky recently.

Thanks for coming out mate - helped me work off the mild hangover and definite Type 2 I got from a Chrissy catch-up last night!

Put some guide marks at the ends of the cracks as they currently sit, keep riding it and check frequently to see if the cracks extend. Unless subjected to a massive impact, compromised carbon will tend to fail/delaminate in a progressive manner.

But when you do replace the rim, get a woven finish, that layer will provide extra impact resistance. ;)
