What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Thursday night was the annual Xmas ride for our group.

Started like this:

Fairly innocuous slow speed fall when someone stopped in front of me in a steep section. Would have been a soft landing if my leg didn’t land squarely on this cut off stump:

Thankfully it was my leg and not my torso etc. My riding crew were amazing with initial first aid and directing paramedics to me. Unfortunately very difficult terrain so was a 3.5hr mission to extract.

Just got out of surgery at RPH so on the mend now.

Started 2025 with some bike maintenance. The Titan had a vibration from the rear brake with the 200mm rotor. Solution - 180mm rotor. Bought some 2.3mm rotors from Ali Express in November as thought I had read they worked well with thicker rotors. Proved this morning that memory is failing - the rotor fits between the pads but the wheel no spin. 2mm max it seems. will get out for a spin later today to bag a ride to start the year.
Any one want 2 x 2.3mm 180mm rotors? Collect from Boronia.

Managed to get down to Narooma over last weekend, left super early so managed an arvo shuttle session in the gravity zone.

Had some time to kill and as I bought down the trusty hardtail as well, sessioned the bottom of Thunderbirds for a bit ; I haven't jumped much on the HT since I got the Torque so it was very weird at first. But I managed to clear the line on it.

Anyway up to the Gravity Zone - the shuttles were mad busy but they tried their best to accommodate everyone. They are great. I started on a trail I hadn't done before to warm up - Hump Back. It was ok, nice and flowy. I love Steve next and it was as fun as I remember.

My confidence and skill level have improved a wee bit since I was last here so I decided to hit Colonel Senders. Wow this is my kind of trail. I will need a lot of time to master this one, but I managed 3 runs, each slightly better than the first. I am not railing the berms good enough for a couple of the jumps and there is one big booter that I was not confident to hit at full speed. The double near the end on the berms is also not achievable for me as yet. But I did manage to clear a lot of the jumps so I was really pleased.

I only managed 6 or 7 runs in the shuttle session so I did hit the bottom of Thunderbirds again. My confidence was up so I rolled Quantum to get an idea. Only the last jump is really intimidating so next visit I might try and session it a bit.

Next morning decided to hit Mogo on the way home, specifically the Trig section. BTW the jump line they advertised I still think is not open yet which is shit. Anyway drove up to the Trig trailhead and ran Poachers Run first up. Wow I didn't expect it to be so long but it was super fun.

Now the bad which was the ride/walk back up Deja Vu ; as I am not fit this was horrible.

Next down Flying Mullet which someone told me was good fun ; yes it was super flowy and jumpy, some big berms ; nice trail.

Back up to the Trig and I was cooked by now but wanted to do Big Dogs Bone so drove down to the trail head and hit it. Wow there were some pretty gnarly features, NGL some of them quite intimidating. I did manage to clear a few jumps but nowhere near all of them. I cannot get proper speed out of some of the berms. Anyway whilst it was a big scary it was great fun. Not great fun pushing up the megasteep road ; there were peeps self shuttling and that's really what Mogo needs- a proper shuttle service. Until it has one I don't think it will ever be as popular as Narooma.

Hitting this one and the new Skyrabbit would be almost impossible without a shuttle. I was tempted to hit one more trail but the thought of that hill climb again and the 4 hour drive back to Sydney made me sensible.

Next time I'd like to session these way more.

Anyway here is a photo of the Torque and my HT on the road near Big Dogs Bone.

Speedy healing @ashes_mtb I hope the surgery went well and the rest of your Christmas was ok.
Thanks mate (and everyone else that sent best wishes). Surgery was all good and stitches came out yesterday.

Still on no swimming/riding and minimal activity for a bit. Can’t really move my foot and big toe much so in a moon boot until it gets scanned and re-examined.

Muc Off rim tape sucks dogs dicks, donkeys balls etc etc. The worse shit to remove from your rims :/ All triggered by blowing my rear Assguy DD two weekends ago crusing down Camikaze. A blue FFS. Anyway, Gorilla tape ahs failed so have cleaned the rim again, will alcohol it flat out again ready for the Pirelli Scorpion Enduro Hardwall R...

@ashes_mtb healing vibes, I hope you hadn't booked to go to NZ....
